Thanks so much, but I'm still very incline to have them done by you since you've done such a great job. I also brake pretty hard during track (that's the only way to minimize lap time =) ) which is why I am looking into brake ducts, etc.

So I saw the pictures of the brake dust all over your powdercoated wheels, but how did your calipers look after tracking? You mentioned it getting soft, but did it melt or get all jacked up from the brake dust? Were you able to just hose it clean or wash it off afterwards?

The shop I powdercoated my wheels said they did both powdercoating and paint (not hi-temp) wheels over the last 22 years with no problem. They said that Powdercoat gets baked at 400° so it shouldn't melt. (I know that tracking under high speed braking could get actually upto north of 500°) So the customers that didn't have any issues prolly just do it for looks but never track much. - I also don't believe regular temp paint will not melt or anything.

What about our OEM Akebono 40th Anniversary Calipers? Are they painted or powdercoated? I hope someone finds out this answer....If they're painted, I wonder if they're Hi-Temp Painted...I would like to have someone like Mike to replicate that for me. (Not neccessary the color but the same process) as we know that works okay.

That wasn't dust, exactly. It was discolored powdercoat from burning and when it softened, the dust embedded into the coating. I had the stock brakes with stock paint on them that time. The first iteration of my brakes, which were burnt orange, discolored and darkened after 1 event. When I replaced them with Brembo fronts, I did the brembos satin black. Now with the stoptech trophy brakes, I'm leaving them the anodized finish that they come in, because they do hold up.

I think the brakes got more to around 600 degrees. With a brake cooling kit, you'll probably be ok. My buddy w0ady who has a G37 and posts here sometimes has a set of akebonos I powdercoated for him, and he tracks and they are holding up just fine.

I'm interested in the candy lime green with akebono logo! That'll look fantastic on my Montery Blue!

You're a funny guy!

Tell me this: Do you have a metallic candy lime green? I saw this color, and it looks awesome, just didn't know if it was available inn metallic. Also, what is your turnaround time right now because I know you're super busy!

Grabbed this image off your site, and it looks like a portion of the caliper has some type of flake but not the remainder of it.

Allpowderpaints.com has an interesting one, not sure if you have it..but thought it looked cool from what I can see of it:

The second one has a metallic base coat with the candy lime over it. It shows through more in the thinner spots on the inside of the caliper. Haven't seen that green, but I can always do a metallic clearcoat over the candy.

If we schedule when they are going to get to me, I can turn them around in two days.

I'm home the 6th-16th next month.

Ok cool! I love the glitteriness of the metallic flakes!

My Z is a DD. Do you have a spare set of Akebonos that you can work on and do the refundable core charge with me?

yes, I have one core set. there are two or three others waiting right now. I had to order one new rear caliper, as one got damaged.

I personally like Mike's color better out of those 2 and your right I think this would look good on Monterey blue.

Mikes color is actually the top two! I think this would look sick on Monterey Blue!

the powdercoat gets soft and brake dust embeds in it, darkening the color. Some cars can handle powdercoated calipers and track use. The 370 can not. Maybe with cooling ducts, but I've gotten my calipers in excess of 600 degrees and it won't hold up to that. I have even melted silicone dust boots, which are designed for that temperature.

I've got a burple, a very dark candy blue, medium candy blue, Carribean blue from the G35, Monterey blue, and others.
