Yeah, he does great work. In YOUR case - have you seen Red calipers on a red car? I dont like it personally, would want something that stuck out more. But, that's me.

Btw, Just thought i'd add here for Mikes work. The White Calipers are still awesomely white (when i clean the dirt off them) but they havnt stained or gotten dull or anything. Got some comments on them at Caffeine and Octane yesterday! woo. |
Mike powdercoated my new Akebono calipers in RAL2000 orange. I bought the brakes from Z1 and they shipped them across town to Mike, for powdercoating. All-in-all, worth every penny. His workmanship is flawless.

Thanks!

There is another vendor on here saying powdercoating flakes off with high temperature and doesn't hold up as good as paint.
I can only say that I've done over 1700 sets of calipers in the last 6 years and never had a set come back from peeling. Properly cured, powdercoat will hold up much better than paint. Plus, my product comes with an unconditional lifetime guarantee. Whether something fails because of me, because of my customer, or its noone's fault, I still redo it free of charge. I do this because I've had mods go wrong and had to pay to fix faulty stuff from other vendors, and my customers never will have to do that because of me. |
Have you done any in black with the red lettering?
|
Nice work Mike! I never thought much of powder coating the calipers, mostly because what I have seen looks like crap. But your work is class all the way. Those orange/gold brembo looking calipers on previous page look very nice on a black Z. Newb question thou.....why so much for 4 small pieces? Maybe if I understood the process then I could justify the cost.
What color do you think would go well with PG and sport wheels? |
I have done black with red lettering, but don't have any pictures of that.
ZForce, This is the process when I receive a set of calipers. Complete disassemble, including separating the two halves, removing pistons, seals and dust boots. Clean and inspect all internal parts, replace as required. Completely strip original finish off of caliper. Media blast all pieces to be coated. Mask off areas that need to be protected. Powdercoat them as desired. Apply logos. Clearcoat with powdercoat. Unmask and reassemble everything. There is about 5 hours worth of labor in every set. I love the crystal red with PG. http://thepowdercoater.com/gallery/a...M_Akebonos.jpg and I do have one core set. Plus, if you become a premium member, you get a $50 discount from the regular pricing of $350. |
Oh that red is nice!
|
Mike, thanks for the break down of the process, well worth it now. Did I tell you that red is my favorite color. Def will be looking down the road to pick up the red calipers if still available. Hopefully you will have a spare on hand at all times for core exchange. Becoming a premium members has it's perks. My only problem is that the bro will want a set for his red Z. Please don't tempt me with another gorgeous photo. Will be in touch.
|
I have one spare set, and they should be readily available within a week or two wait, depending on when they went out, however, I must say, that unlike my corvette and camaro customers, Z people seem to hold on to my cores forever. The last guy was quick, but the one before that kept them for more than 4 months before sending them back, despite my constant reminders.
When I had a 350Z core set, 2 months was the average return time, until someone decided to stiff me and just keep them. Not to tempt you, but.... http://thepowdercoater.com/gallery/a...TM_Akebono.jpg |
Now you know why I didn't want to keep them long lol

Mike, thanks for knocking out those Calipers for me. As soon as I can get the car to Z1 to have them installed I'll send you some pics. :tiphat:
|
Are you able to get an color similar to the retro brembo brakes/ap racing brakes?
|
Do you mean the flat gray? I can do something similar to that. can't do brembo gold though.
|
Hey Mike do you have any pictures of a yellow caliper on a black wheel? Thanks!
|
no, I've got a yellow caliper on a black car with a silver wheel, but not on a black wheel.
|
Soon, very soon ..........
Imagine a yellow caliper behind this wheel http://www.the370z.com/members/zat_z...9rearwheel.jpg |

no powder manufacturer makes that color
|
Honda Inca Gold was the closest I heard ever came to the Brembo OEM color from past years.
Mike can you do Orange, similar to the persimmon interior color, and either Nissan or Akebono in black? If you have a set of cores you can do it with I'd swap it and give you a quick turn around time. |
yes, I have a persimmon match, but I don't have a core exchange set any more. You would have to send yours. My core set is going back on my car as I convert it back to a daily driver.
I can turn them around in 1-2 days though. |
