I wonder what's different in the design that makes them require vs just benefit from a tune, i.e. MAF table update. |

It was mentioned a time or two mixed in with other posts I think... I'm not really sure what exact post to direct you to... Akuma would have to step in and answer that one...

Well I guess time will tell, I like the design and the black looks great, this would be a no brainer, but I just do not see even 50% of Z modders waiting till a tune is going to happen before buying intakes or buying a cobb or cipher cable, maybe I am wrong, and for these guys I hope I am, I think this appears a quality product and I would buy it, but I can get the stillens and have proven gains with no tuning or map updates, or the new long tube taketas...not trying to be a downer, but I have a different business philosphy is all, I like the innovation and design!

Any Z modder looking to go for max performance will ultimately (if they're doing it right) get a tune at some point. So really, it's not that out of line with what the Average modder does. Sure, some don't get tunes, sure some get tunes and don't need them... It's all about what the modder is looking for and their intelligence base. The beauty of this one is the fact that Akuma has already done the work of what your tuner would need to do making the tables, and are Giving them to you free, instead of adding an additional cost, ( to Akuma for that!) And you don't need a FULL tune to get this table installed. A simple flash will allow you to update these. Those generally go for $300~. So you don't have to spend all day on a dyno. Granted, with Stillens, you don't need this... But with Stillens, you're looking at paying almost 2x as much vs the Akuma's... Not including Installation. Lastly, the Takeda's have had several issues with delivery, and no definite dynos to prove the gains. With pricing still above the Akumas, and only one filter which potentially might help/hinder gains... I'm not trying to be a fanboy (and I don't even think I could qualify since I don't have a set yet ) I'm just trying to give fair/balanced debate.

Akuma's intake requires a revised table because it uses larger diameter piping and does not neck down at the MAF. The MAF will read differently and so the maps need to be adjusted. Larger diameter also means a bit more low end torque, which is better for a street car since prior CAI's see their best gains at the highest end of the powerband (think 6000+, a bit overkill for street driving).
Cobb did make an AccessPort for the 09, unfortunately, some drivers reported a lot of detonation and misfiring. Sometime early in 2010 Cobb completely dropped all support for the VQ37. People can still use the AccessPorts just like you'd use Osiris, but you don't get support from the manufacturer anymore. I am looking forward to seeing these come out; unfortunately their release is not timed well for me. I'd have to sit on these intakes until I get around to buying Osiris anyway.

Please move this discussion to the intake thread as this is a group buy thread.
We at Akuma understand fully your concerns about these intakes but they are not meant to just slap on your car and call it a day. They are race proven, and dyno tested to be very durable and still efficient even with a whole lot of heat soak. Yes they do require revised MAF tables but its something that can simply be done with the cable or the Osris Tuner or the access port (Cobb no longer supports the 370z) We appreciate anyone who has stood by our product and for that we thank you. We have done what we can to make a very reliable intake backed with great customer service! Cheers! |

I talked with Kevin today. Looks like we are still awaiting people. I my just end up getting them to weld me up some since people just can not grasp the idea behind there intake system. C

Yea, just call Kevin. He will take care of you. I really wish more people would get in on the GB. They still think Stillen is the S@#t. Stillen products to me are all over priced garbage.
