We need more info on the unit so we can compare its capabilities to those like it on the market. What are our advantages to this unit versus ______ brand and model.

With Unichip you can switch between 5 different maps.
Immobilizer map Valet map High altitude option Sea level option Racing map They also allow you to tailor your own mapping if you like, so say if you have kids want they want to borrow the car. You can make a map to limit the cars ability. Another feature which is just about finished is the ability to switch maps with blue tooth. I mean that gives you the possibility to switch maps with a Smartphone. Personally I like this feature the best the ability to take it out of the 370Z if you sell it, adjust the wiring harness remap the ECU and then put it into a different car. I am still waiting for an email from Mr. Kuyl about how much the gains are a long with pricing.

Well after looking at the Cobb website one thing I didn't see listed was that it can't be used in another vehicle.I know with the Unichip if you sell your 370Z, all you have to do is adjust the wiring harness and download a new map and you can use the Unichip on different car or truck.
Also the Unichip is going to have a bluetooth function. Paired with a bluetooth windows mobile smart phone or PDA with their Flux Power Display software it does everything the Cobb does except it will be wireless, but if you do not have a Smartphone or PDA you can still plug in and set up the mapping. Something else I just thought about with the Cobb, you are overwriting your ECU so if the Cobb breaks you can not reprogram your ECU back to factory settings until you get a new one. If the Unichip fries for some reason, all you do is unplug it and all your factory ECU settings are still there.

Hi Jake,
The bluetooth option (We call it FLUX) will definitive be available for the Z . We always offer it as a seperate option as FLUX needs to be "tuned" for each model : we have to enter vehicle weights etc. so that we can work the virtual dyno & all that . It's quite cool , you get to do 0-60 & 0-100 times (with staging lights), terminal velocity , check & clear fault codes . I'll have more on the kit in 2 weeks when we get our prototype harness & a test car. Regards, Marinus Kuyl. Unichip of North America Inc.

Just wanted to put a little more information out there.
Here are the installation instructions for the Unichip piggyback on the earlier 350Z's. http://www.unichip.us/installation_i...ns/2340011.pdf To install the COBB Access Port you simply plug the tuner into your OBDII port, select your tune, and your finished. The COBB tuner CAN BE REMOVED AND RE-SOLD. When you plug the COBB tuner into your OBDII port you have to "install" the tune. This basically locks that access port controller to that particular car's VIN number. However, if you decide to sell the car and want to remove the Access Port that is 100% possible. You just have to hook up your controller and select the "un-install" option. This will remove all of the tuning and unlock the controller. For more information please visit the following link and scroll to the bottom of the page. You will see a short video on how to remove the tuner from your vehicle. CobbTuning.com - 350Z AccessPORT: '03-'06 VQ35DE Engine The COBB tuner also allows you to read and diagnose trouble codes, data log your runs so you can pull vital tuning information, upload your datalogs to your computer and get email updates direct from COBB. You can track your performance of your car, 0-60 times, 1/4 mile times, and more. Those are all features that are not possible with the Unichip. Also, it looks like the COBB is about $50.00 less than the Unichip... Now for the pro's on the Uni-chip: Once the Unichip is removed it will not leave a "foot-print" on your factory ECU. Because it is a piggy-back unit all of the alterations are made after the signals come out of the ecu. Basically the car's factory ECU has no idea that the Uni-chip is even there. It is difficult to make any assumptions on performance because there are no numbers out yet from Uni-chip. Not trying to say anything negative about Uni-chip. I have no personal experience with their products, just pointing out some of the difference's I saw on both manufacturer's website's. Hope the information I have provided proves helpful to some member's of the forum! Last edited by Kyle@STILLEN; 04-24-2009 at 04:50 PM. |
