Jack Daniel's is the best in my opinion. Normally where I drink it is in Thailand where I spend most of my time during the year. There are many whiskies to choose from but the prices are much higher than in the USA. Jack is usually about $50 a bottle. But I buy it in a bar and drink it there. When I leave, they put my name on it and I come back whenever and get it and continue.

I like Bulliet Frontier Whiskey or Blanton's Single Barrel for my everyday bourbon, both have a great taste and and are very smooth. Drink it on the rocks. I want to try some Pappy Van Winkle, but can't find it around here anywhere.
I'm just getting into Scotch, just finished a bottle of Glenlivet 18 year, it was very nice. Complex flavor, but very pleasing. I had the Scotch neat, never got around to trying it with a little water. Not sure what I'm getting next, maybe one of Johnny Walker's. |

The history of alcohol and the role of cheap prohibition alcohol in providing a strong impetus for mixed drinks and cocktails is interesting. Hence rum and coke and scotch (or whiskey) and whatever.
An interesting turn is that you now see people mixing good alcohol with drinks that hide or overpower its flavor. Chili's has built an empire in part by convincing people to mix good tequila with shitty margarita mix. Doh! |
