New Supercharger acting up

Hey everyone! First of all I just wanted to thank everyone on the forum for being so supportive. I'm moving in a couple weeks, my washer broke, and my install had a handful of problems. During the turmoil the forum has helped me maintain some of sanity.

CAR: 11,000 miles
aem wideband a/f and glowshift boost gauge
Borla cat back
Dragonball shift knob ;)
Stillen SC

Problem: stillen sent me the wrong map so they threw something together for me in a day. I got the car today and my mechanic told me that it'll take about 300 miles for my z to remember how to car again. The car seems to be struggling, won't really go, and backfires if I try to push it. The car tends to run lean and I can barely get the boost gauge over 0. Mechanic told me to call him end of the day just to check up and that the flashing airbag light will eventually go off. I don't know if I should believe him. Please advise as this is my first time dealing with FI. Thank you guys so much for the support

You need to find a new tuner ASAP!

I should be have been specific. Lol

ANMVQ 12-17-2014 04:04 PM

TOW the car, Sounds exactly what mine did when the feed line fell off I have thread and vids here and on myg37

DEpointfive0 12-17-2014 04:54 PM

You live in LA, we have several good tuners, yours is complete and utter shít.

Tow it. Give us the name of your tuner so we don't go there.

Lastly, who did your install?

Business Kat 12-17-2014 05:57 PM

The place is fuzion teknique ad the guys name is Alex. He's good at everything else we've done, mostly cosmetics, but this install was funky. Something happened and Stillen sent over a map for the sport model with synchro rev. They told me that they don't have a comparable map for my car so overnight Stillen worked with uprev to make a map for my car. By no means is my mechanic a tuner but I figured it's just a plug and play map system (I don't really know how it works).

I can't tell if Stillen messed up or my guy didn't do something right. I don't know who to trust. Church automotive is only 30min from me so I can drive it down there coasting. Should my car have been ready for beast mode right off the bat? The 10 min I drove it around today I did notice it opening up a little. I have such rotten luck with cars. My last car was a lemon and when I first bought my z I went to put in some speakers and the guy cut a lot my wiring and made my car a fire hazard. So much wasted time, money, and my poor car :(

Chuck33079 12-17-2014 06:18 PM

Stop. Driving. That. Car. Until. A. Good. Tuner. Looks. At. It.

Business Kat 12-17-2014 06:25 PM

Thanks. I'm going to get it on a dyno tomorrow. Just out of curiosity...

The map I got from stillen... Is there any actual tuning involved or do you just plug it into a laptop, download, and in theory it should work?

It should work immediately. There's something very wrong. Putting it on the dyno may well cost you a motor. The smart move is to not move the car one single inch under its own power until the issue is investigated and resolved. Period.

Business Kat 12-17-2014 06:37 PM

By dyno I meant take it to a tuner and doing the whole 9. If I even came close to full throttle on a dyno or on the street I'm sure my engine would drop out of my car

Any throttle. Tow it to a new tuner. You already said it was running lean. Be afraid.

Tow it to Specialty Z

Mike 12-17-2014 06:59 PM

could be something like coil wires put on the wrong cylinders (I did that on my 350) and I burned up a cat in no time, or it could be any number of small things done wrong. I wouldn't drive it anymore, and definitely wouldn't put it on a dyno.

1slow370 12-17-2014 07:12 PM

yup take it to seb he will fix your woes or tell you what is broken.

ANMVQ 12-17-2014 07:13 PM

Here's the vid of what mine was doing , if it's running lean stay AWAY from the dyno till they look at the fuel pump , I did that to and 3 days later my cyl 3 took a dump . An the whole time my car was doing this the boost was either negative or 0 nothing over 0 .

Hello Business Kat

Very important!

Do not play with fire!
Listen to the comments on here!
Let your Nissan 370Z set by a professional Tuner!

Otherwise, you risk your engine, or if you are lucky, only the catalysts!

This happened to me in the beginning 2011.......

http://www.the370z.com/attachment.ph...1&d=1418889003

The definitive end happened 3 1/2 years later (a other Story...)

JWillis72 12-18-2014 08:19 AM

This should fix the airbag problem, it will not stop on its own. My car ran like crap on the Stillen tune, my tuner made it run great.

brutusvk 12-18-2014 11:18 AM

I am wondering if the reflash didn't take also. I had it where we did the frlash and it wouldn't see several sensors and would not datalog. Did a follow up reflash with the new file and it worked. Regardless it has serious issues. Did any mention not to drive it? Oh yeah, they did. Mine is a tiny rich in some areas and a tiny lean in others and I am paranoid driving mine it mine is well within the safe zone. I hope the OP followed the advice.

Update: The install was fine, we checked everything. I have a 2013 MT base model. The map Stillen sent over was for a sport model and my car wouldn't start. The next day they had found another map they sent it over. The car runs and Stillen said that it's not in any danger as long as I don't attempt to race anyone. Stillen won't be able to get me a good map to me until over a week because their tuner is in Japan. They claim I'm the only person that has a 2013 MT base supercharged so they can't send me an accurate map. I'm just amazed that this happened. I didn't expect stillen to handle this the way they are.

Just because they are well known doesn't mean they are a stand up company... I highly recommend you call Seb at Specialty Z and have him set you up with a custom tune. WAY safer, and you will make more power.

Chuck33079 12-18-2014 04:44 PM

The Stillen tune is garbage. Get a real tune for a safer, faster, better car in all aspects.

ANMVQ 12-18-2014 07:07 PM

I wouldn't trust hear say or Stillen saying anything like that , you go tget merge on ththe hyw or anything and motor blows your in the hook for 10k to fix it for the love of everyone that's told you just get a custom tune and be done with it . If you are really goin t wait for Stillen to get you a map after Xmas ( caus no way it'll be next week) make them pay for a rental car so you don't blow yours up , just my .02

You car spits, pops and makes no boost and you want to drive it !?

JWillis72 12-18-2014 07:29 PM

Everyone here is trying to help you, I hope you don't regret not listening.

I would do what everyone has been saying man. You're dead set on getting a map from Stillen and that is a big NO NO :shakes head:

JWillis72 12-18-2014 07:46 PM

The guys at Stilen are good guys but I don't believe anyone can tune a car perfect without knowing what happening with the car. The dyno gives a tuner that info for your car.

:iagree:

Its like a quack doctor writing a prescription meds without physically diagnosing a patient.

Business Kat 12-18-2014 08:49 PM

Church Automotive was nice enough to squeeze me in today. The maps Stillen sent me were terrible but now it's running UHmazing with 475 to the wheel! Turns out the guy went to school with my dad too! Thank you all again for your help :)

ANMVQ 12-19-2014 07:04 AM

Glad you listened man, Super happy you got up and running right. :)

JWillis72 12-19-2014 07:44 AM

I hung out with Shawn back in the day during a big K20/Hondata event. Cool guy. Standup guy. Never seems flustered or out of his element.

TerribleONE 12-19-2014 10:42 AM

Glad you were able to get it taken care of.

fire165 12-19-2014 07:41 PM

Great news!
I love happy endings.

Zoren 370 12-19-2014 08:07 PM

Great news! All's well that ends well!

This is a prime example of what this forums about!

Great job everyone for helping a fellow member in need.

OMGWTFBBQ 01-18-2015 07:09 PM

Hate to bring up an old thread, but got any videos of the dyno tune? Shawn Church tuned my HKS supercharged 370z and it's been all fun and smiles ever since then. Glad you had a good experience with him too!
