Need advice...
I got an 09 370z touring sport. A buddy has an 09 as well. He can no longer afford the car and has to return it to the bank. It has many upgrades. Including coilovers. His car has 30k miles. He wants to trade me his stillen supercharger kit, headers, injectors and ecu, for 1200! In return he keeps my oem stuff. Better than the bank getting it i suppose. The kit has like 20k miles. What exactly must i make sure we remove? He has the new gaskets as well. Do i need new serpentine belts, timing belt etc? He says the kit runs like oem that it even has its own coolant reservoir. Do i also get the fuel pump? Is that inside the gas tank? Also, my big concern is the tune, how can i transfer it? Can i just remove the ecu and plug into mine? If not ill have to pay 900 and take my car towing 400 miles away to get tuned by uprev. Please any suggestions10733617_10154988423255413_366051857_n.jpg |

You basically will be getting a 'tuner' kit, which means you will lack the fuel pump & tune probably.
The license for the tune can be transferred to you, but not the specific tune itself. You will need to take your car to a shop and have it tuned. Use this thread to see what you will recover along with the instruction manual: STILLEN 370Z Supercharger System - Announcement!!!

You could probably swap fuel pumps but considering you can get a whole new setup for about $100 it probably isn't worth tearing into the fuel tank. Are the spark plugs on the Stillen kit upgraded or OEM? Of course at 20k on the kit I would probably recommend a new set of plugs anyway. I hope you have a lot of free time to make this swap happen. As an aside - the folks at Stillen have always been really helpful when I called. You might want to give them a call and talk it through with them and get their input. |

Well whens he returning it? I would want to try to remove everything and sway the stock stuff back, Maybe take it to a shop and have them do it? I know you trying to save $$$ but if the kits only $1200 even if the swap over cost $2500 you still saving $7200 and not going to miss anything. ( My SC kit total with install was $9700)

That's really cheap to do all that labor. I wouldn't swap ecus. Just buy the cable and pull the license off his car. He is going to need his back to stock file to unload the tune |

Your buddy's map values (though not the ROM file itself) may be usable as a baseline tune, but you need your own cable etc -- you cannot just swap ECU or transfer his flash to your ECU (although you may be able to use his cable and license ... seymore4 will be able to assist. CORRECTION: jwick is correct -- you can transfer licence and cable if your buddy has one. If not, you'll need to get your own. Buuutt... if it isn't a tuner cable/licence you'd need to upgrade to that. Also, you will need a BACK TO STOCK ROM for your model ECU. You can search for more details at the Uprev site. You might want to track down a local tuner who is familiar with uprev to assist and advise.

Hmm, so if i buy that cable i plug it into his obd port, and plug in a laptop? I then turn it to oem mode somehow, and that puts the tune in the cable? Then i plug the cable into my z and upload it there?

It's not that simple. You will need a 'BacktoStock' file to reflash the ECU to stock parameters. When that action is performed, it stores the license you removed on the cable. Take that cable/license to your tuner and have him tune the car from scratch. That or call Stillen and ask them how much it would cost for them to provide you with the tune file. If they can send you the tune file then you could just flash your ECU yourself at home.

The Stillen tune is locked. If you buy a full version of Uprev you can tune the car completely from scratch.
