I truly appreciate all the input. This site has been very helpful. On a funny note, now my wife wants her GTI APR reflashed. lol She is gonna have a pretty fast little GTI.

The car started having an odd noise. Hear it in the car at idle in drive. Cannot hear it under the hood. Can barely hear it under the car. If the rpms go up the sound goes away. Sounds like a low sqeaky rattle. May be a loose exhaust part. Annoying.

I think it sounds different. I am starting to think it is resonate sound from the SC. Will take another person working on it. I need another set of ears to track it down.
BTW, does anyone (except GTM) actually make a HD flexplate for the 7AT? Last edited by brutusvk; 12-16-2014 at 04:15 PM. |

Oh does it sound like a a marble in it? If so its just the SC. When you change the oil it will get way better. I change it before every track day and it sound like that at the end of the weekend. I change the oil a lot to keep it quiet.

It is hard to explain. But I think the marble in a can sound that at a specific rpm sounds a bit different inside the car. I have no idea if that makes sense. Kind of like when it sounds like a noise is coming from the front, then you find out it was in the back but "travelled through the exhaust". So the muffled version of the sound creates an effect that changes it slightly. Make any sense? lol

Mine kept getting louder until the first oil change( I think 2500 miles but may have been 5k) then I quieted way down until I beat on it. I think I changed mine 6 time last year but I also track the car.

It is just resonate noise. We tracked it down. It just changes pitch as it goes through the car.
Here are some videos my buddy took. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aN_Xsmg0hAU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hcrsUmd_mA8 Still needs some additional tuning but that is to be expected. |

Still throws the code from time to time. I am going to drive the car with the tuner to see what is happening while hearing and feeling what s going on. There are a few stumbles at specific rpm. (down low in the rpm range) Wide open it feels good. It is the day to day stuff that will need fine tuning.

Had a bad day. The car suddenly died and wouldn't start again. Showed CEL and slip light. However, I shut the ignition off completely and retried and it fired right up. Got it home and pulled codes. P1238 and P1239. Cleared them and they didn't come back on. Going to have to take it in to the shop to research the problem. The tuner thinks it could be a iffy fuel pump. But who knows. I am wondering if I didn't make a huge mistake modifying my car this much. Feeling pretty discouraged.

The tuner had my car for a little over a week. He drove it around a bunch. He ended up loading a new map. He smoothed out the AFRs throughout the rmp range. All the problems appear to be ironed out. The car is fast. Now it if will stay running correctly, I will be happy with my purchase!
On the positive side, I got to drive my wife's GTI a lot. Had it tuned with the APR software. (engine ECU and DSG ECU) I wish our cars were that easy! Insane torque out of that little 4 cyl! Last edited by brutusvk; 01-16-2015 at 11:15 AM. |
