Not sure what WG you have nor am I familiar with your EBC but on my setup if I'm not connecting to the top of the WG then I'm not really using the EBC. In that configuration I would except pressure to fluctuate as you are just riding spring pressure. |
with external gates, you can use the controller in "actuator" mode by leaving the top WG vented and just sending boost to the bottom side of the WG diaphragm. This makes it function like a big internal wastegate actuator - it actually works very well for cars that dont run super high boost. Its what I have always used for stock motor VQ setups because its clean (less hoses).

Makes sense. Have to look into that if I ever change EBCs, current doesn't have that option. Running less hoses is always a benefit. |
I'll have to figure out my tune issue first, that's probably playing a huge role into the fluctuating boost pressures..car is seeing knock on 93 and anywhere in the 12-18 range of timing running 10.0 on afr.
|
That definitely sounds like you have some tune issues.

the perfect spot for a square boost controller, sits a good amount "inward" in case of wandering hands
Btw - The GFB is super easy to use and understand. https://www.dropbox.com/s/8mehs31pea...0027.JPG?raw=1 |
Very good spot! nice!

I have finally turned on my EBC.. Holy hell she is always in "serious mode" now. She is way more responsive and hits harder. Then again, I was on spring pressure somewhere around 7.5 lbs and I have went up to 11lbs with the EBC on. Just wow, she is so serious now. VROOM!!
Anyhoo, I have posted a question on my Turbosmart Street EBC. If anyone have any insight, please educate me. YzGyz |
I didn't some time at the local industrial park to learn the new set up and EBC. I'm pretty sure I have the 7.5lb spring in the wastegates. My turbosmart EBC duty cycle is only at .5 and the gate pressure is at 2.5.. when I wot the main psi display climb real fast and I can't read it accurate bUT wI'll show myou overbost has triggered. The EBC has a function function that will show the peak psi. It read 12.7 psi.. Dose this seem right? I'm figuring out should only get to like 8.5psi max at such a low duty cycle.. can someone explain what is going on to me?
Thanks. |
I'm running about that pressure when considering boost spike. My max on the gauge is .83bar (12.2psi)

UPDATE:
-turned car on and took a look at the display settings. It is in PSI mode but per the manual, it will show - pressure in mmHg (mm merc) -opened both WG and found the 0.5 bar/7.25lbs yellow spring inside. -found a few pinches of sand inside so I cleaned that out, put a little but of air tool oil on the diaphragm and put them back together. -looked at the hoses and how they were plumbed and they look correct according to the install manual. I drew a quick diagram of how the system is plumbed. -Two sides of WGs, charge pipe, lead end connecting to EBC and plugged into port 1 of solenoid. -Two tops of WG connected and plumbed into port 2 of solenoid. -Port 3 of solenoid to atmosphere. I used the, "Two port, Single solenoid, Single turbo, Method 1" http://www.turbosmartusa.com/wp-cont...psi_MAY_12.pdf Anyone has any Idea what is going wrong? I haven't had a chance to visit my shop yet. I'll take a drive tonight and mess with it again.. kinda bothers me. YzGyz |
Just out of curiosity, how many lbs of boost do you guys see in 1st gear typically ?
