You could replace it with one that has more flexibility in the way you are trying to set it up.

Or you could set it up like the Subaru guys. Put the lightest spring you can in the WG. Leave your manual boost controller in to set your low boost limit and then have the EBC set your maximum boost level. Turn EBC off completely for low boost and on for high boost.

Pretty much all of what JWICK said.

I have the Profec 2 (red screen, cause blue destroys your night vision) and it was installed in my glove box. The Greddy kit comes with 4.5 lbs WG springs, so my target boost never held at my high setting (which didn't matter much since I rarely got to use it much in TX). Once I get back and get another NISMO to gear up, I will replace the springs with the medium range ones that allow me to hold at 1BAR (if I get the urge to build the motor). I may be looking into getting the new Profec EBC and installing it in the blank button location, but the glove box works well if you don't change it up much and you want a certain degree of stealth.

WG Spring: 4.5lbs
EBC: Greddy Profec 2
Low boost: 0.5-0.6BAR (roughly 8PSI)
High boost: 0.8-0.9BAR (would spike to 12PSI and taper off to about 10.4PSI on gauge)

Hey guys I have another sort of dumb question,

Which of these methods would be best ? Also, in the first method where it has the top port of the wastegate "vented to atmosphere" , as well as port 1 on the solenoid, would I just leave this open to atmosphere or should I have hoses on those ports going somewhere .... sorry for my turbo noobness, just want to be sure.

Mine is hooked up like the bottom one except I have two wastegates and I take my pressure source form the intake manifold.

how did you vent the port to atmosphere? Just left it open?

I just left it open. I will preface that I have a Profec not a turbosmart.

Who else has the Innovate SCG-1?

tonyHTX 09-22-2015 10:17 AM

^ I have the Innovate SCG-1 as well and I love it so far, but I haven't really had much experience with any other controller to be able to compare.

My Scg-1boost is all over the place. Not sure why, hits target then bounces from 13 to 10 to 12 then 9....wicked pain in the ***

I recently switched to Cortex EBC. It's a new product on the market. It has advance features like high end standalone EMS, with 2 optional outputs to turn on accessories base on boost or rpm. It can only be tuned on a laptop, the display unit can be used to switch between the 6 profiles that can be programmed into the controller. It's the only EBC available that can do boost by gear, boost by rpm, and boost by throttle % without going standalone EMS. You have to know how duty cycle work and the concept of boost tuning in order to work this EBC.

For the hook up I always use this configuration. This will allow me to run the softest wastegate spring and still run as high boost as I need to. This is great for boost by gear setups. It works by keeping a balance between the top and bottom ports of the WG, either to apply boost pressure to open the wg valve or to keep it shut (against turbine backpressure). A lot of people end up running stiffer springs when they want to increase max boost due to backpressure forcing the valve open, this setup will fix that since boost pressure can be routed to aid the spring keeping the valve shut.

Sounds like it's oscillating. Try turning off gain and spring pressure setting and work with WG duty only. Only use gain to prevent boost tapering off. Spring pressure setting should be the last to play with.

Rob298mx 10-10-2015 07:32 PM

Gain is off and spring is set to 6.1. The WG spring installed is a 7lbs Spring.

I would check the vacuum hoses for tear, particularly the one going to the top port of wg. Other than that, it could be loose wiring or solenoid/controller.

pulled only from the bottom of the WG
