The only thing I don't like about the GFB unit is, you need to run a vacuum line into the car for it. It's not the end of the world, just something I noticed.

I have this one. It's the one JTran recommended I get. Has two setting (High Boost and Low Boost). If you want to run on WG pressure you just turn it off. Extremely easy to install and has performed well for me.

Draw back. They don't make it anymore so you have to buy it used or NIB off eBay. I bought mine off eBay for like $300 NIB.

Bumping this, anyone have pics of how/ where they mounted their boost controllers ? Trying to decide what route to go with mine

Don't have a picture handy but I velcroed mine underneath the steering wheel.

Had mine above the steering column, but moved it to the cubby on top of the Racelogic control....but when I have time I'm going to move it back to the steering column and move the Racelogic controller to the center console where the switches are near the cup holder.

This may be a dumb question but .... If my target boost is 10 pounds on my controller, and my wastegate spring is 10 lbs, should I be using a lighter spring?

Electronic Boost Control Thread

That all depends on what your goals are for the build. Keep in mind that the controller is only capable of increasing boost by a factor of two. So in theory with your 10lb spring you could run 20lbs of boost. Going with a lower spring will effect that upper limit. The tolerances in the WG springs are rather larger 1-2lbs if I recall properly. If it were my car I would run a slightly lower spring 7-8lbs if all you want to achieve is 10lbs. This could require resetting the boost controller. Mine is set by a percentage over wastegate so lowering it would require reprogramming the controller.

Its likely that all your controller is doing is keeping steady boost levels and not actually adding any boost above gate. Just remember that if you want to run more boost in the future you will be limited by the gate spring.

Of course you could go by the old saying, 'if it ain't broke...'

If the car is running as you want, leave it alone

Thanks for the info jwick. Actually trying to setup a low boost setting around 8-10 lbs and a high boost at around 14-16 psi depending on if that gets me to where I want to be. Assuming it will. I don't have the controller installed yet, removed my manual one. running on WG pressure w/ a 7lb and 3lb spring, I'll remove the 3 lb.

If you remove the 3# spring then you will just be running the 7lb (0.5bar). That will limit you to 1bar pressure in the future. That's still a lot of psi but on a built motor with lower compression you might not get where you want to be.

I'm not sure what WG you have but there is likely something between 7 and 10. I have the Tial MV-S and there's a 0.6bar spring which is about 8.7lbs. That would probably be the right spring for you. Run 9-10lbs on low boost and it'll still give you the ability to run 16-17 up top.

I have a turbosmart 38 ultragate, here's a chart of the avail springs, don't see one between 7 and 10 :/ , In that case maybe I Should stick to the 10 setup lol
