Anything other than powder coating some piping?

1slow370 11-05-2014 12:21 PM

soo $800 to paint the charger and the pipe black instead of having to polish it? Is this one of those less for more things or is there something else in the kit now that makes this better than buying the regular kit and painting it black?

Edit: When Mercedes does a black series they add 100hp

Edit2: someone needs to start buying regular stillen kits and "converting" them to black series for 800 bucks profit.

G37sHKS 11-05-2014 12:37 PM

At least its available in the market unlike other kits lol, so give them credits for that :P

We are simply bringing another option to the market for people who want a different look. We are still testing to see if a high power kit is viable and reliable, but we do not have any information to release on that at this time.

We are not forcing people to buy this kit over the original kit, just giving people options.

I love the black! Looks very stealthy. Nice option for sure.

Oh yeah it's just hella expensive, how does something that is cheaper than polishing cost $800 F'n dollars more

It's CARB-legal powdercoating.

And if you have it re-coated, it picks up 100whp over the supplied coating.

You had your custom PC'ed didn't you? how much did it cost?

TKomodo 11-05-2014 02:41 PM

I coated mine

3 Attachment(s)
Ceramic coated Stillen kit.. Also ceramic coated my intercooler, radiator, ac condenser, oil cooler, cat back exhaust. About $1000 all together

Ceramic coating is actually functional to dissipate heat, and it is more durable. PC is just for looks and twice as heavy, hold heat in!

ANMVQ 11-05-2014 02:48 PM

DavidZ370 11-05-2014 02:53 PM

Stillen taking an L for this one.

Riptide67 11-05-2014 03:02 PM

Glad to see that other options are becoming available to people. Keep up the progress.

Yea it does. I was just referring to how the kit removes a lot of the stock components and looks no where near stock. That's why I said it isn't stealthy.

you can even get a black in yellow now

Masterbeatty 11-05-2014 04:12 PM

So much hate! I think it looks great just wish i have the funds to buy a kit. The two cars I've modded with stillen parts never screwed me once. So they will continue to have my business, trading my money for smiles.

Mike 11-05-2014 04:17 PM

I'm guessing that at least the supercharger unit on their kit is also ceramic coated, not powdercoat.

we aren't questioning the look for the most part it's the price. It's an $800 upgrade.

This guy just needs to have a package price to do this to the stillen kit, pipe and housing pick your color $120

TKomodo 11-05-2014 04:22 PM

i coated the inside of the snail with a slick (smoother) ceramic coating to reduce air friction. I left the gear housing stock

Well not trying to stir the pot but I just saw one in person today at Sema and it looks really good in person. As far as the money... No comment

MMC Racing 11-05-2014 09:17 PM

For industry comparison, I think what Whipple does in their color options for $600 is more reasonable.

DavidZ370 11-05-2014 10:16 PM

No one is bashing the product, its a good product without question, the increased price tag for Pc is what kind of irks me that is all.

? I know that ceramic coating headers/exhaust components is often done (my last z had the FI lths coated) for performance but my understanding is that the ceramic coating keeps the heat in the pipes. Wouldn't you want the opposite effect for the intake piping-keep heat out?

Also wouldn't the air be traveling so fast as to make insulating the intake piping unnecessary?

Doesn't work that way I guess. Like header wrap on the intakes doesn't help much, that gold foil though... That helps
