Default Motion Lab VQ37HR Build

We’ve been busy here at Motion Lab! A longtime customer of ours started a build for his 370Z not too long ago. His goal is to get as close to 600whp as possible. The customer started by sending a running VQ37HR long block to us to build with forged components.

After it has been built we’re sending it off to New York. Our normal supplier for rods and pistons do not make parts for the VQ37 so he opted for Carrillo H-beam rods and a set of custom ordered Wiseco pistons (stock bore). And ARP hardware will be used to hold everything together. Boosted Performance’s mid mount turbo kit with a Precision T4 6266 (gen 2) turbo will be force feeding the motor.

Oh, this should be good. What turbine housing does the customer have?

Let me know if you need anything from this end.

Thanks Sasha! He opted for the 1.15A/R T4 divided if I remember correctly. Look forward to tuning another one of your kits. Also have my other local BP 6266 customer coming back for a EBCS so we can get a nice flat boost curve out of it versus spiking to 10psi and tapering to 7-8psi. Should make the top end look a bit nicer .

Tuning on 93OCT, and potentially some VP race gas in the future just to get some really pretty numbers out of it lol. 9:1CR Wiseco pistons w/ anti friction skirt coating are being used with a 95.5mm bore size.

We will be utilizing OE bearings with a dry film coating to increase load capacity and reduce friction. Heads will remain stock except for a proper 3angle valve job.

Thanks,
Alex Goodwin

For a built engine I would really push for the 1.32 housing. The EBP is something to consider, as these engines Rev high and have an incredible VE.

I will relay that to him. I agree about the housing size and VE of these motors, largely in part thanks to the cylinder heads. I was already chirping in his ear about the larger hotside to make sure we don't end up with excessive back pressure at 6000+RPM killing the top end performance. We may to an electronic cutout to make sure we alleviate any back pressure on the exhaust side of this sucker

Looking forward to seeing where 20psi might put us on pump gas

Thanks,
Alex Goodwin

20 psi! I thought his goal was close to 600...? We have guys hitting 600 around 12psi. I hit 533 at 10lbs.

What does he plan to do about his MAF situation? Does he have the GTM ones?

Im going with 11:1 compression with Arias pistons tuning off E85 to reduce spool time. I plan to set it around 15 psi and plan to easily break 600. I would go up to 17 or so but I will max out my 3" intake tubes at 15.

18 psi is probably going to be near the upper limit on pump gas. With that, 650whp on a dynojet should not be a problem, provided he goes with the 1.32 a/R housing and fuel support is there. This is based on results I have seen with the twin scroll kits on the VQ35.

This is going to be fun to watch. I am also going to be going as far as i can on pump gas before switching over to e85.
I am hoping to hit the 600+rwhp mark spring on 93 and 700+ on e85
