Just stopping by to let my fellow BP Z brothers an update on my car...although I haven't truly shared much info, I had recently gotten the 3" charge pipes to add to my v1 kit. I went to get a retune for the new pipe and unfortunately, my baby didn't hold..number 6 cylinder ringland had let go...was an exciting and hurtful day all in one, in which still hasn't sunken in...the car made 554whp and 491wtq before it let go. Numbers that I was excited and happy about...no ones fault in this situation. Just happened to be that time. As we all know with mechenical items, they can break whenever. Going to move on and figure out my best options for the car/money. Will keep the car, don't worry. I love my Z so no option there lol.

Thank you jay. I'm looking into a built engine since it wouldn't make sense to do stock parts again lol. Money is the key here now.

Damn that sucks...that's a ton of torque on a stock block. Think I'm happy to stick with my 503/465.

Interested to see what you do with the build.

This is why retuning for more power scares me.

Sorry to hear about the hurt motor. All I can think about is dollar signs.

Trust me I was worried before I made the choice too. Actually 2 weeks ago talked to my buddy about it. But so many people are now pushing the platform way higher and not having any issues so i felt that althought it's a little high. Still on the safer side then what other people are doing. Just happened to be that mine didn't take it well. this was also only going to be my high setting, as for daily driving was only about 480-490 hp and even lower tq. (Don't know off hand right this second)

Curious to know why it happened. Do you have a build thread with a full mod list?

No I do not. But it was a mechanical issue. The newer 13's and up have been known to start having ringland failure with pushing the power like we all do. Most that I've talked to think that the trasition for these issues had happened somewhere in between 12 to 13 model years. Now my car is a 12 and 1/2 where some things have been changed from the previous years. Curious to know if this is when it changed and if it even is a change. Especially in piston design. I'm not sure, this is just what I'm being told by a few people but does make sense. My engine is pretty much all stock other then the turn key BP kit, as jwick had said my TQ was a lil on the high side and that ultimately could have been the reason.

Well I was thinking since it was #6 and with the stock fuel system being a dead end style system. It's been well known that we have fuel pressure issues around that territory. Our fuel runs in Series and #6 will get the least amount of pressure especially in stock form. Less pressure + Less fuel/cooling = Knock. Most guys around there convert to a return style system so they can run a FPR after #6 and ensure the rest of the cylinders are getting full pressure.

Not trying to disprove you, just making all possible issues are considered

Oh no I completely understand and appreciate your help! And I do realize all that but until I tear it don't right now it's in the air as a 100% for sure what happened. But either way it's gonna be torn down and built. Do it right since it broke. no matter what I say it "could" have been wont know till it's sorted out like I said. I could say anything at this point to take blame but I will get to the bottom of this. And a fuel system update will for sure be in future plans.
Thank you sir

Torque kills engines. I think some of us have been spoiled by the WHP numbers the TT guys are putting up on the FI/AAM builds. Although a TT setup typically comes on faster, the torque is usually a lot lower. With a single like our BP kit the torque comes on like a freight train. Chuck runs a Stage1.5 GTM TT kit with roughly the same WHP as me but I'm pushing 60 or more WTQ.

Instant torque is hard on the internals. I actually had my tuner pull as much timing as possible in the torque band to get it down but there wasn't much we could do as this 6266 BP kit just makes a ton down low.

I would be very interested to know if there are any real internal differences between early and late model productions.

I see from your signature Vince tuned your car originally. Was he tuning it when it let go?

Yes he was, and he did a great job. Now the car didn't truly "blow up". The reason we think it's a cracked ringland is because everything went well till the last run when the car started to randomly smoke. Not thick white smoke like head gasket but the thin kind of oil. And it smelled like oil. Also I habe bleeders on my engine which they too started to smoke. The car still runs and drives but has that smoke and a very small miss right now. So we caught it before something "BIG" happened.

Thanks Cosmo, and thank you to everyone with your support! such a great community. I'll work through it. Bound to happen with someone, somewhere. Especially when pushing it.
