Gauge selection

So I'm currently installing my boosted performance turbo kit on my car and was wondering, what size gauges fit perfectly into the current oil temp, volt, and clock locations. This is the set up that I wish to go with but I'm not sure what sizes to get. All help will be appreciated!:tiphat:

52mm. There are DIY threads about doing just that. Also search for Galeforce's a-pillar thing.

Did you buy JoePro's kit?

Thank you sir :tiphat:

I am looking into a custom multi gauge for us. The options are nearly endless so I need to get it narrowed down. I was thinking a multi gauge for FI guys, and a multi gauge for NA guys. I would also have an option for guys that want to go all out. I'm talking a 4.3" screen in the upper cubby location displaying up to 6 readings on a screen at one time, with the ability to page through to more screens, reading.

Think there would be any interest?

This is an example for the 52mm multi gauge for FI guys,

This would only work for people with Navi, but, old Android phone + bluetooth OBD reader + torque app + aux video input in the storage area.

Also, with your Defi gauges, how did you deal with the dash resetting every time you turn off the car? I'm guessing something is wrong with the constant power. I tried a ton of different wiring combinations on the triple gauge harness and I couldn't fix the issue.

Run an add-a-fuse to your kick panel. Use the multi-meter to determine which fuses are always hot. That's how I ran all my gauges. I don't recall off the top of my head which ones in the kick panel were hot all the time.

1, Can you display information from an external source on the factory Nav screen?

2, I didn't use the triple gauge wire harness for my Defi, I ran my own power.

I've never seen it without a switch and a carputer. But I don't know much about electronics/audio other than I'm real good at plug that there and connect those two wires together:tup:

Yes. There are aux RCA ports in the center arm rest. As a quick test, I hooked my Raspberry PI up to it, and the PI displayed without issue. I want to do the cellphone thing that I mentioned, but I haven't sat down and figured out how to make a video out with my available devices. Obviously, this will only give info that is read by the OBDII, so if your multigauge was going to display things like boost and oil pressure, it is definitely needed.

If you are using the video feed you would still need a switch to allow viewing with the parking break down. All video feed is cutout when the parking break is down or the vehicle is in motion. At least it is in a manual. Not sure how the function works in a AT cuz I pretend they don't exist:tup:

First...what is the lead time for your pillar Galeforce? I may wind up with a set of four Defi's this winter. Not sure yet. But need to consider your lead time in to my plans if I go there. 1 pod, standard.

Second...Custom info on the navi? Hot. I really want to start my own gauge company and specialize in multi-gauges. Dials, not screens. All the multigauge dials I have seen are ugly. Why can't Defi broaden their selection. I really have a love-hate things with those guys.

You know what!!!!!! I just realized that you can display reverse camera info on your mirror...see where I am going? That would be cool. >.>

I've been pretty happy with my GReddy Multi-gauge. It runs boost on the dial and any two I select (oil temp, oil press, coolant temp, fuel press, voltage, EGT, I think that is all of them. Oh boost if you want digital too) on the LCD screen. It stores peaks and will give you audio warning. The only draw back to it is it will only alarm what is being displayed. Oh and it's a 62mm pod, which is the only one in existence. Good news Mr. Gale already has a template for that size:tup:

Although they stopped production of it for future release of a replacement.

And it's expensive as hell! I was looking into the Greddy, but the cost and all the things you mentioned turned me off. If they had their new version out already, I might have considered it. But I'm not about to drop $500 to display oil temp and pres. on the same gauge, when it is the wrong size and already EOL. Instead, I spent 300 to do it with the two NEW Tanabe gauges.

That being said, if I ever went turbo, I could see using the Greddy for boost, IAT and EGT on the same gauge.

You are correct about the video display while the car is moving issue, but there are wiring hacks that can be done to prevent that problem.

I wouldn't consider running any gauges NA. I researched all the options and the GReddy and Innovate were the best two pod combination option on the market. Everything else either left something to be desired or involved more pods. (item to note is I have a G and there are no pods on the dash and everyone has the display screen regardless if you have nav or not)

As for cost. It was about the same as any other setup combination I looked at assuming you buy good gauges, which is the only way to go when boosting. Why spending $10-15k and then cheap out for a couple hundred savings on gauges.

Sucks the HKS/Magden units both went away, I like my camp2, plug in (wire in a few extra items) and it plugs into any screen.
Only other option for that right now is a carPC setup which is fairly customization. I will say that most of these seem to go away because even lower end cars now have a screen in the car by default with some gauges (look at the juke).
