Audio Dynamix 370z Nitrous Install

Hi guys,

I’d like to share my ZEX Nitrous installation experience with the370z forum. Audio Dynamix of Battle Creek, MI performed my ZEX Nitrous installation. Why did I go with them? Simple. They are by far the best performance in my area and I have personally known the owner for half my life. I’m sure I wouldn’t be able to get half the pictures I did without knowing him because I was pretty much nosing in the whole time.

Here’s what was installed:
Zex Nitrous Management unit
10lb Bottle
50HP shot (75HP shot available after I do some more monitoring)
Remote Bottle Opener
Purge
Bottle Warmer with built in sensor - Not installed yet because of Zdayz
Safty Blow-down

Here’s what I need:
Nitrous Gauge
AFR Gauge – I’m figuring out all the gauges I want for the future and where I want them installed. I’m torn on getting the A pillar that GaleForce has or replacing the three center Gauges.

Here’s what I currently have on my car with the nitrous:
Front and Rear White Line Sways
Front SPL End Links
Rear Energy End Links
White Line rear bushings
Two piece Z1 front rotors
DBA rear rotors
Motul Brake Motul RBF600
Fast Intentions resonated test pipes
Fast Intentions Testback exaust. (see what I did there. )
Fast Intentions 34 row oil cooler w/ thermostat
Z1 Urethane Motor Mounts
** Car does not have a tune **

I have currently ran through one 10lb bottle and I am really happy with the results. The car is noticeable faster when spraying but it’s nothing crazy, it’s only 50hp. The note of the engine changes to a higher pitch when spraying. The nitrous will only spray when I have the system activated and WOT. I believe a button can be installed so that you can spray anytime but I really don’t want that because the only time I want to use it is at WOT.

I recently was able to get to the drag strip and made passes without nitrous. I made two passes and my best time was 13.38. I will head back out to the drag strip and get 2 passes of 50shots and 2 passes of 75shots so that you can see concrete results.

If anyone has questions I would be happy to answer them the best I can. I have one request from potential posters. Please do not post if you are negative about nitrous UNLESS you can back up as to why. No one will find that helpful.

That 50 shot will be 100 before you know it, very addicting. :icon17:

I'm curious to see how the auto handle the new found power. in for results. :) great looking install

black_sedan 05-27-2014 07:02 AM

Curious to see how much quicker its going to be with the 50 shot.

gbrettin 05-30-2014 11:41 PM

Ok Gents. The Results are in! I was able to get out to US 131 again. Get this, it was Super Chevy test and tune tonight. I was the only Nissan out there (not surprising)... :)

75 Shot Runs - Both 75 shot runs felt really good. 7AT holds the power no problem in all gears.

100 Shot Run - I was only able to get one run in because they were closing down the track. You might be thinking why is the run so slow compared to the 75? It's because I was boiling my tires 1-2 and caught some traction in 3. When I was closing in at the end of the quarter mile I felt 5th slip a little due to the clutch packs.

Overall - The engine runs just fine with nitrous. Infact, I'm thinking it could take a lot more but the 7AT trans appears to be the weak spot (imagine that). If someone with a manual were to run N20 I'm thinking they could blast a 125 shot pretty easy.

--- EDIT!! ---
I was running a 75HP shot instead of 50 and a 100HP shot instead of 75HP.

Awesome runs and great reaction times. Get some stickier tires and you'll be in the very low 12's.

You're right about the 125 shot on the manuals, if the tune is on point.

So this isn't direct port? Interesting. As a nitrous noob how do you switch from 50 to 75 shot? Change nozzles? How many?

I had considered nitrous a bit ago and my shop recommended direct port but honestly having holes tapped into the manifold made me uneasy.

Very impressed, taking almost full sec off your quarter is amazing for a couple thousand i presume 2-3 grand when done. Nice.

Plus nitrous gives the car top end to combat those highway turds... :)

Gonna try to pick your brain if i start to seriously consider this route again.

Thanks for sharing your setup and informing the community.

No this is a a wet system. Switching jet sizes increases or decreases the amount of fuel and nitrous being sprayed into the intakes. This will increase or decrease the amount of hp/tq.
Direct port is very nice but albeit a much more expensive route due to extra time for installation/more parts.
Highway turds are not worth the gas and should be left alone ;) Look into HP from nitrous plus check out how much torque that it produces.
$2K is about average for cost, as with anything though, if you want to spend more money, you always can :icon17:

These are very basic answers. Search and read and read some more about all the safety components, dry vs wet vs direct port ect. There is a world of info out there. Some good, some bad and some outright lies.
It IS forced induction and is not something to throw on the car and hope for the best, the more you know and understand the better time you will have. Hope this helped a little bit.

I will let you start to fall down the rabbit hole of videos and searches now :icon17:
*Edit* I should wait until I am fully awake to make edits for clarity.

Nice runs with the 50 shot. I'd have to imagine you could put down an 11.xx with 125 shot and good traction. It would give the turbo guys a run for a fraction of the cost.

Madwai pretty much hit everything right on the head but I'll reinforce some of the answers.

--I had considered nitrous a bit ago and my shop recommended direct port but honestly having holes tapped into the manifold made me uneasy.

You really don't need direct port unless you want HUGE gains. The Zex kit I have is rated up to 250hp. I'm only scratching the surface of potential power, however; I really don't want to go any where near 250hp. I'm really happy at 50/75.

-- Very impressed, taking almost full sec off your quarter is amazing for a couple thousand i presume 2-3 grand when done. Nice.

I spent no where near 3 grand. If you were savy at installing I would think you could do the whole kit with add-ons for around 900 - 1000.

Anytime!

It's a great power adder and another option for us Z owners. :)

I think it could break into the high 11 with the 100 shot, if traction were there. I'm not going to venture that high because I don't like how the 5th gear clutch pack reacted on the 7AT. It might have been the line pressure too? I'm not sure.

I'd love to see how someone with at 6MT or a 7AT fullly built transmission ran a 100/125.

I wonder if shutting down the nitrous with a window switch before the shift or using a progressive controller would help reduce the shock when shifting to 5th?

YES! Progressive controllers absolutely CAN reduce the shock of the N20 hit on your parts when set up correctly. There are controllers that can control transbrakes OR utilize the clutch wire so when you are shifting the system turns off when the clutch goes in. I have a saved thread from a forum about nitrous in higher gears, I will try to find it for you.
