GTM 1.5 need suggestions on build

So no one is buying my gtm 1.5 kit, so this weekend going to get the car picked up.

Planning on the following:
1)Install CJ Motorsports RRP fuel starve fix
2) Radiator upgrade, either GTM 70mm plus shroud+spal fans, or other ideas?
3) Need clutch/flywheel ideas, this car is driven on the street and hpde trackdays/time attack competitions
4) Will need an upgraded CSC (stock one failed twice already), Z1 motorsports is testing out their new fix but I don't think I can wait for it to be released.
5) misc?

Huge thanks to Baer for the SC hook up!!

Joepro 02-04-2014 04:50 PM

Joepro 02-04-2014 04:50 PM

Call joe at zspeedperformance.
He has the clutch you need and upgraded cscs.

martin82 02-04-2014 04:53 PM

thanks for the suggestion I will call him TWICE LOL

theDreamer 02-04-2014 06:08 PM

Radiator options also include CSF with upgraded fans/shroud but is a bit smaller on capacity versus the GTM one. Also a more OEM fit with the CSF as the extra space is towards the engine.
Clutch I cannot help, still on my OEM at 75k miles with my SC, partially being a little lazy with it but also it has lasted.

Besides that get it installed and properly tuned and hit the track. Only other thing I could suggest besides getting the system cooled is extracting the heat as much as possible.

martin82 02-04-2014 10:10 PM

I probably not bother with csf or mishimoto rads. Found out who makes the radiator for gtm and they are a legit company, but it is a single pass. I am talking to them see how much a double pass radiator would cost custom made.

SS_Firehawk 02-04-2014 10:22 PM

The GTM radiator is the shizzle. I recommend the SPAL fan upgrade too. My water temps average between 170 and 180 with spirited driving and cooler weather. With HPDE's, I would look into twin 25 rows. I have twin 19's, and I truly feel it's not enough. It also might be worthwhile to look at their baffled oil pan. I have the Zspeed CSC and it's been good so far. Absolutely do not buy a JWT clutch or any organic clutch. I have the JWT and it's at it's limit. I feel the clutch get soft and the engagement is nearly to the floor when I'm beating on it. It could also be the fluid getting hot because the line runs near my PPE headers. Maybe get the SZ clutch and flywheel from Seb @ Specialty Z.

Did you already do the LSD? Also, what's been done for the brakes? Lastly, not sure if it's an option of if you'd need, but I use meth to cool my intake charge, it might help prevent heatsoak.

1slow370 02-04-2014 10:35 PM

os giken all the way the green one twin disk is the **** for clutches.

martin82 02-05-2014 01:07 PM

Car already has OS Giken LSD, I am on my 2nd broken rear driver's side axle, the CV joint keeps busting, you guys don't have that issue? Could be because majority of the tracks here are CW direction?

I will probably go with GTM 70mm rad and HO spal fans unless Ron Davis says I need a dual pass custom radiator.

Clutch, OS would be nice, need to find some sponsors for clutch!

I already have Baer's gauges, A/F gauge, temp gauge, boost gauge. Prob need to add oil pressure

Joepro 02-05-2014 01:18 PM

The giken sure is nice but holy expensive...rather change out the single disk a few times...of course I can do it myself :)

martin82 02-05-2014 01:52 PM

Just spoke with Sam at GTM, have to request my rom tunes for uprev, he picked right up! Supposed to get them later today.

Car will be picked up on Friday night and it will be trailed to San Diego for the SC install.

snowsurfdirtx 02-06-2014 02:23 AM

Who's doing the install? I'm debating which clutch to go with too.. the OS Giken is pricey pricey but then again you don't skimp on boosted builds so why skimp now. I did talk with Joe@ZSpeed, and he had some great info. I'll be on the 92mm pulley till the weather warms up, and then I'll upgrade the clutch as well. Lemme know what you go with. Also, what pulley are you running and what are you shooting for number-wise?

martin82 02-06-2014 08:33 PM

My friends over at Sportcar Motion in San Diego will trailer the car out and take care of the install. Will be running the 88mm pulley and also have the other pulley to run about 8psi forgot the size.

Have an issue trying to see if anyone knows, Is there any room to keep my Z1 34row oil cooler behind the intercooler 1.5 Stage, I want to add a 2nd 19" row. The car is a heavy track duty car so I need as most cooling as I can get thoughts/ideas? We are building a differential cooler as well.

Stole these from the net:

2nd oil cooler by fender liner:

And this is the same 34 row oil cooler I have and installed location:

SS_Firehawk 02-07-2014 01:15 AM

You might need to move it in closer if you can fab a bracket. Mine are up front but my ICs are thicker.

Thanks any pictures of your setup??

theDreamer 02-07-2014 06:53 AM

I don't have the driver side in this picture but it should give you an idea of how close everything is to the radiator.
I have the stage 1, but believe the same intercooler is used for all SC (minus the twin).

martin82 02-07-2014 12:42 PM

thanks yeah everythign looks tight, but if the powersteering fits, I would assume the oil cooler might also?

theDreamer 02-07-2014 12:56 PM

Ok, stole a few pics from the GTM press release thread which give us a view on the driver side.

theDreamer 02-07-2014 12:57 PM

That cooler on the driver side is the SC oil cooler, but not sure if there is much room to stuff an oil cooler behind the intercooler.

martin82 02-07-2014 01:00 PM

so maybe I will have to get rid of the crash bar and get a custom beam made like a drift bar, then mount the SC oil cooler on it right in front, then where the SC cooler is add a 19" oil cooler and under the headlight see if I can fit a 34 row cooler sideways?

thanks for the pics I 've been searching anything gtm related.

theDreamer 02-07-2014 01:03 PM

Custom bar would be a good idea to open up space.
A crazy idea, and not sure if it is still around, but there was a really short but wide oil cooler kit made by a company. I think AE performance or something like that, I know a few people got them and like it. Might be a better solution than running 2 oil coolers, try to mount that up front and keep the SC oil cooler in place.

OMGWTFBBQ 02-07-2014 01:33 PM

This might be a stupid idea, but have you ever thought about doing a dual oil cooler setup with the coolers right in front of the fender liner? Cut a square hole into the fender liner and have a louvered panel riveted in so the air passing through the oil cooler has somewhere to go.

I figured since you have the Stillen front end, the two side vents would aid in directing air towards the two sides in front of the fender liners. That and I don't know how effective everything will be if you stack intercooler in front of the oil cooler/power steering coolers in front of the radiator.

Then again I'm not sure about the placement of the air filters on the GTM 1.5 SC on the passenger side. Might not be enough room.

I have a slightly different setup planned (different SC kit and Zele front bumper instead of Stillen and twin HKS oil coolers with aluminum ducting) but I'm using this thread as drawing board. :p

theDreamer 02-07-2014 01:39 PM

There is some room on the filter side (passenger side), but not sure you won't to run the lines for the oil like that, might be to much distance.

OMGWTFBBQ 02-07-2014 02:05 PM

車種別オイルクーラーã‚*ット:フェ゠¢ãƒ¬ãƒ‡ã‚£Z

This is a link to the HKS twin oil cooler. The right picture (single cooler) could be flipped to sit in front of the passenger side fender liner if the washer reservoir is removed and custom brackets fabricated. The oil lines would be the same length as the one pictured so if it's good enough for HKS it should be ok? The left picture is the second oil cooler, which is located in front of the driver side fender liner.

martin82 02-07-2014 02:05 PM

distance might be ok, but without an oil pressure gauge it would just be a guess, more lines=more places to fail LOL damn, I've seen many cars on fire on track due to an oil line coming loose, those fires can't put out!!

OMGWTFBBQ 02-07-2014 02:25 PM

Wait. Martin. What gauges are you using? I'm going with oil pressure, oil temp, and boost in the OEM triple meter and AFR inside the cubby.

I know there have been a couple incidents on the forum of people who've had oil lines come loose. I think Mike was one of them?

Oh yeah. Might be a good idea, but keep a halon fire extinguisher inside your car. Hopefully you'll never have to use it and it's somewhat expensive, but it might save your car.

That is a nice setup but I would worry about how much line I was running, also those ducts will not worth with most boost applications because of piping & the intercooler.

martin82 02-07-2014 04:00 PM

I have Innovate A/F gauge, defi Temp gauge, defi Boost Gauge. Need to figure out oil pressure also.

I have an Iq3 Racepak Datalogger also as pictured here and also plugs into Obd2, I took it off to sell but since no one bought the SC kit, I am putting it back on. Except as soon as I get a roll bar, the Iq3 dash will go on top of the steering column blocking the stock gauges for now. Additional sensors can be added but its very expensive, so I might just install 3-4 gauges in the cubby hole.

I have twin 19's mounted up front. I've also had the AE Performance oil cooler. Both awesome. I have pics of both in my journal, 1st page

Edit: added pics

My sandwich plate was broken, obviously a new one will not be...

Thanks for those pics, have u ever measured ur intake temps/intercooler? My car is for track, so just regular street cooling won't be enough. With 34 row cooler I hit 260's deg after 2-3 hot laps.

SS_Firehawk 02-07-2014 05:56 PM

Intake temps were about 10-15 above ambient if I recall. It was surprisingly good considering I have unshielded long tubes sitting right below and snaking past two Superchargers

martin82 02-08-2014 11:31 PM

Thanks, does anyone have updated install manual? The manual I have shows two air filters in passenger side, but mine has a green filter...

Martin,

Glad to see you are installing the kit I am sure you will be very pleased :) It seems you are looking at the instructions for a Stage 1 kit and you need the Stage 1.5 instructions. I will PM them to you tomorrow.

Have fun!

Martin:

Perhaps your dilemma is airflow over the oil cooler itself. If you can find a way to maximize airflow, the 34 row would make it's money for you. I haven't taken mine on any circuit yet, but I ran the Dragon and the two connecting highways in 2 loops while they were doing the car show during ZDayZ 2013. Lets just say, I drove gingerly and my temps never exceeded 230.

As far as clutch goes, I have the ZSpeed CSC and SS braided lines. I have Competition Clutch's Twin Disk and it is the money. You may have to call them about it because I haven't seen it on their site, but John from Zerolift told me that it was a beast to install. OS Giken is a sure shot as well, but you are going to pay for it. I have no experience with OS Giken in a Z, but I had their twin disk in 2 out of 3 S13s I owned.

Liquid_G 02-12-2014 09:50 AM

FWIW, I've been super happy with my Stg3 Ceramic clutch from Competition Clutch. Over a year with it now, including one track day and its held up pretty well.

martin82 02-12-2014 07:36 PM

thanks!

I am having some problems with installation. My installer says it is where the PS Steering Bracket and Alternator bracket are.

The manual calls for a M10x1.25x128mm bolt, but the bolt is almost 1/4" too short, the bolt only threads about 1-2 turns. Anyone got any ideas? Also, the installer says they ordered a longer bolt but even then, the bracket hole is counter sunk so they won't be able to tighten it with a socket. Installer says we would need a socket head cap screw with allen wrench. Ideas, thoughts?
