Cooler where stock muffler go?

I have been reading a lot lately on FI systems. I'm mostly interested in single turbo systems. Anyhoo, as I read more and more FI builds, I find the heat is a big problem for our car. When you add FI into the mix things get even hotter really fast. Adding a intercooler (IC) in front of a radiator can rob the radiator of it's cooling capabilities. Pre-heated air, reduced air flow, along with many other factors just compounds the heat problem. This is when a though came to mind. Aftermarket cbe (in most cases, anyone with a turbo would have this) such as Fast Intentions makes the old muffler area empty. Why don't people put a IC or oil cooler there? I understand that it will receive less indirect air flow compared to a front mounted one, but you can probably add a bigger one since there is less of a space restriction. You can add a few small fins to direct some of that under car air into the IC or oil cooler. This application may be more ideal for mid mounted or rear mounted turbos as the a lot of the pipes would already be there. This may also help balance the car out. Your nose wont have the extra weight in front. You will probally not want to add large air directing fins under the car as it may add "lift" to the back end but I would think that some well thought out fins would work great.

I'm sure there are many other complications, benefits and negatives to this applications, they just haven't came to mind yet. In my mind, it seems well within the realm of plausible.

Totally not enough room, the cost would really high and I assume the lag would be worse

The only pratical way of installing a cooler in the rear that I can see, is doing a set up like the LFA. But that would require you do drill holes and make scoops for the air to flow into the cooler.. Good Idea but not practical for the Z.:tiphat:
