dmhenderson just read your post, after that and Infedel's issues with getting his kit, I'm glad I opted for a refund and filed a claim with my credit company. I was considering going the supercharger kit swap a while ago, but after all this time and all these problems, no way.
it's just sad really, this could have been such a great product and move for the community if handled correctly, but it's just turned to ****. |
Hey don't get me wrong. Now that the kit is installed, it's awesome.

Once, IF you can wait to get everything, GTM's products are pretty damn solid, yes there have been a few cracked manifolds, but hell, they have sold a LOT of kits for a LOT of cars |
Sam was always good at placing blame on the install shop. It's his specialty and catch all phrase..Cause apparently no one besides him knows what they are doing..LOL

As I said earlier, If I was in the US and close to GTM and could pop in to see how things are running, I would probably still be in the group buy, but being overseas it gets a little more scary when you try come up with a solution to at least get some parts to clear up any bad thoughts but are shut down even when you have paid in full while people who are pulling out are waiting weeks/months to get refunds. |

Two shops that have been in this business a very long time in my area echo this sentiment. Their customer service has always been...lacking and the delivery timetables are horrible but once you get the kit, it's quality. Now who knows what sourcing decisions they've made since last year when I got my kit. Looking at that youtube nightmare halfway through this thread, clearly they have some pretty serious "issues" as of late but I can tell you that two shops have gone over my SC kit with a magnifying glass (because I'm paranoid as hell) and both have told me that it's solid. Also I'm not sure what you mean by "overseas". Many (many) industries and parts shop use suppliers outside of the US. My car was built and assembled in Japan. Many of the parts on my car came from Japan. I'm not sure that overseas part vendors are a good barometer for what's good and what isn't. |
Another tuning shop in my area posted on my FB page that they ordered a supercharger kit from GTM back in January and are still waiting for delivery. The customer has long since cancelled the order but they still haven't seen anything except some "dubious in-progress pics". The guy who owns the shop is still holding out some faint hope that they'll deliver it...eventually.

Calling GTM products solid is of no compliment to them. You do realize they manufacture absolutely zero of their products right? So their Turbo kits include "brand X" turbos and "brand X" waste gates and a "brand X" intercooler, the fact that the turbos, wastegates and intercooler are of good quality are no indication that GTM makes a solid product. Just that they utlize good components in their kits.
Its really not rocket science what were looking at here. GTM may mock up or have another shop mock up a kit for them, then they contract another place to manufacture the kits in mass quantity for them. They may do some intercooler piping or various little things in house, but I can assure you the major components of the kit are not made on site. Do you honestly think GTM CNC machines a bracket for a Supercharger in their facility? Do you really think they make their own superchargers? Not even HKS does that and their 10 times the size of GTM, they contract it out to a company that makes supercharges. Im not sure if you guys realize this or not, but you could probably have a custom fabrication shop that specializes in that sort of thing, make you a custom one off TT kit to your own specs at around the same price if not less than the GTM kit, which they make a nice profit off of. GTM would have to make at least 40% profit on the kits for them to be worth wile to make and sell. So do the math... But just so we are clear, GTM produces nothing of quality. They may subcontract other companies to do this for them, but its NOT them making it. |
Oh no I understand that GTM isn't making the components but that doesn't mean the kits aren't good. I'm super pleased with mine despite the fact that I overpaid for it

looking at the "who's viewing" at the bottom is my favorite part of this thread lol
:bowrofl: ok my :twocents: soooo i know i'm not part of this since when the kit was annouced i got my quote prior to the group buy even going down.....thankfully i decided to not give them money. i seriously feel bad for you all. this is such a bad situation and it's not like the pulley group buy that people got screwed over like $100. this is way more money and time. also this seems that it may cause a larger negative effect on the community. i saw this because if a company that seems to be as large as GTM can go bust and screw so many people, then it will be even harder in the future for smaller companies with quality products/ideas to get things off the ground. i could be wrong or maybe out of line a bit, but it just saddens me to see anything negative happen to the 370Z platform. i'd prefer for every thing to go well and the platform/community to thrive. in the end i really hope anyone who's getting bent over and done with no lube that you get your money back or whatever resolution you're looking for. |

I think when they say gtm makes/sells a solid kit, it's that it does what it says it will do, it's mostly reliable, and has quality components. |
This probably dates be but this reminds me so much of the whole Altered Atmosphere situation - it's kinda scary.

Yeah I dunno that I'd trust an unproven in-house manufactured BPV or SC. I'm very happy that they used Turbosmart and Rotrex for my kit.
Folks, as much as people are unhappy with this situation, please don't dogpile for the hell of it. GTM's customer service is absolutely horrid and they may or may not be in financial trouble but that doesn't mean that everyone should jump on the "GTM PUTS OUT A SHITTY PRODUCT" bandwagon ...because they haven't and don't. Forums tend to demonize/dogpile very quickly - just look at the guy who accused Sam of doing the same thing on the 350z.com forums *in this very thread* and it ruined his business.. Sure, there have been a few failures here and there but I'm sure you could find just as many component failures with Stillen or Greddy if you wanted to. |

When I bought my BP kit, one of the pipes were welded the wrong angle and Sasha sent a new one within a week. I didn't even have to send the old pipe back. |
