Turbo Timers

Hey guys, I searched and didnt find much on this, except for a few old threads. Anyways, who has installed a Turbo Timer on their Z? If you have, which one did you go with and where did you mount it? I would love to see some pictures!

I haven't installed mine yet, but I purchased a HKS Type 1. Going to install it in my center cubby with my EBC

Your turbos are water-cooled. You do not need a turbo timer.

Really? Crap, already bought an Apex'i.

Since it says "water and oil cooled" I still went ahead and ordered one anyways. It was only ~$100 and it will help put my mind at ease.

It's not needed by any means, I just want to cover all my bases just to be sure.

It is my understanding that the water cooling makes it not as critical however its still a good idea when driving the car hard

Between water cooling and modern oils, they're really not necessary. I do let the car idle for a minute before shutting it off if I've been beating on it.

I have a GReddy turbo timer on my 300ZX and it's mounted on the panel under the steering column. Unless you track your car, you really don't need one. It's just ensures your engine runs long enough to cool down before it shuts off.

There no longer needed these days. If your driving your car hard the proper way to cool it is drive around (like a cool down lap at the track) for a couple minutes. Not too slow, just normal steady speed in a high gear.

But there neat to have when you walk away from your car and everyone says, your car is still running.

unless you are drag racing down your driveway or within the last few minutes of getting home, the turbos arent going to cool down much more. use a quality oil and drive it nice-ish for the last few minutes and you are good.

In the rare event I park right after a hard run, i just wait in the car for 60 seconds before shutting down. Saving that one minute of my life isnt worth leaving a very expensive car running unattended or hacking up all the ignition wiring and screwing with the vehicles security system.

Good to know. As I said I knew it was not as critical however I still thought they were a good idea. I generally always let my car idle for a minute or two after driving it.

Like the other guys said, save your money. You don't need one.
