Thats what I was thinking. You would think if it was a piece of rod, it would have to get past the piston. If it did that its a lot worse than just the rod lol. Im thinking broken ring lands.

Hopefully we will see Tomorrow!!!!

Hopefully, the only damage done was to the piston lands, and not to the cylinder walls or anything else.

If it was a rod. Chances are, it would be out of the side of the block. Be real easy to see then.

Years ago. I worked on a ferd 300ci straight 6. The guy said it was down on power, but had no strange noises in it. When I removed the head. I had two pistons at top dead center. :icon14: Turned the crank over by hand, and watched all of the pistons move, but #6. Removed the oil pan and everything looked good. :icon14: Unbolted the rod cap from #6 and pushed the piston and rod up. What happen was the piston broke in two at the oil ring land. :icon14: No damage to the cylinder wall. Got another piston and new rings and install it.

Hopefully your motor could be like this. :D

COSMO 02-10-2014 07:36 PM

It's funny you say that because there is a hole in the side of the block... Will take some pics tomorrow to see who guessed right... 20% goes to the house!!

Any oil around the hole? 'cause this doesn't sound good. :shakes head:

BGTV8 02-10-2014 10:39 PM

Ah, it is actually an electrical problem - engine won;t start right ??

Rod came out the side of the block and knocked the wire off the starter solenoid, so is actually an electrical problem !!!

D'oh .........

COSMO 02-11-2014 09:22 AM

Well it doesn't look like I am going to be able to pull the motor today due to the weather. Yes the cars Always stays in the garage but I will have to roll it out a little to get the motor out with the tranny attached.

zguynate 02-11-2014 09:29 AM

The suspense continues.... lol.

Chuck33079 02-11-2014 09:33 AM

So if there's a nice rod-sized observation window into the side of the block, are you going to make it into a coffee table? :rofl2:

COSMO 02-11-2014 09:45 AM

Actually that's not a bad idea chuck, that would look cool in my man-cave..:tup::tiphat:

I stole the idea from Top Gear. The real one, not the godawful US abortion. They've got a Jag motor as theirs. It looks awesome.

Got this from vsr today. The motor is balanced..

faceglide 02-11-2014 04:52 PM

I got excited, thought it was your invoice!

Then I was like wtf are these numbers! Balance is a good thing!

Putting together my parts list for my built block. I just tell myself, "mr. face, lets keep it under 10k, ok?". Hope you aren't as bad a spender as I am!

We're all cheering you on! Go Cosmo Go! :leghump:

Stay safe bud!

COSMO 02-18-2014 03:27 PM

Alright been working on the motor today and later I have a few friends coming over to pull it. Will have some pics up tonight so stay tuned!!!

Do you know your bearing clearances (crank/journal)?

COSMO 02-18-2014 03:48 PM

Come on man why the hijack? :shakes head:
I know vsr is a competitor but really... uncool brotha.

elperuano 02-18-2014 04:03 PM

Lol bro the built motor has nothing to do with BP. That is just a simple questik question.

blackonorange 02-18-2014 04:08 PM

Lol wut

COSMO 02-18-2014 04:12 PM

I know but it's obvious the question was asked as an attempt to second guess my faith in my builder. Sasha why don't you just call bobby and find out yourself and report back if meets your standards because Im sure we are all dying to know.

blackonorange 02-18-2014 04:25 PM

Uhhh you're reading Sasha completely the wrong way

I am sorry if you took it that way. That was not my intent at all....and I was just wondering. I do not build engines, so I don't see how this is competition in any way....They have a single turbo kit, and so do I...they are very different, and the customer can decide what best suites their needs/applications. I have also never had any issues with them, so there is no reason for me to try and "dig" for something that isn't there. I wish you all the best with your build.

Again, I am sorry, but that was not my intent at all.

COSMO 02-18-2014 07:51 PM

It's all good, and hey allow me to apologize misinterpreting your comment. Maybe one day they will legalize marijuana in FL and I will chillax all of the time...

I'm having Boost withdrawals. My built motor should ship in a few days btw.

Just a few pics of the motor and internals going in the cryo machine.

Chuck33079 02-21-2014 09:04 AM

So is the motor the last thing you're waiting on?

COSMO 02-21-2014 09:18 AM

Yeah all of the parts are there so after the cryo treatment they then will begin the build since the bore has already been done. Keep your fingers crossed I won't have any issues because this will be my last build.

Chuck33079 02-21-2014 09:19 AM

I'm pulling for you.

The break in miles are going to suck. Do you have a new base map for the new fuel system so you can get it back on the road and broken in?

COSMO 02-21-2014 09:22 AM

The only thing I have is the base gtm base for now. When the motor is finished they will ship it to me then I will install the turbo kit and transport it down there for a tune.

So you're goint to transport it out, get the base map and go back later for the full boost tune? Or are you just going to have them do an abbreviated break in on the dyno?

COSMO 02-21-2014 11:12 AM

I'm going to haul it down there myself because I just don't trust these transport companies and then have them just do a break in on the dyno... I will start the car here and allow it to run for about 30 min and then do a oil change. Yes I'm going to use non-synthetic oil for the break-in.

Just make sure to follow the engine builders break-in procedure and use the oil they tell you to use. The oil they tell you to use will depend on those clearances on the journals, and of course the builder will know them. I would suspect it would be a heavier weight oil like 5W40 because the engines built for higher power should be "looser".

I use 0W40 M1 synthetic on my own stock block 350Z because it has shown to greatly reduce bearing ware (Blackstone oil analysis results)

There are also oils designed for engine break-ins....something to ask about unless it has already been brought up.

COSMO 02-21-2014 11:23 AM

Right on, yeah bobby told me just to use the Nissan oil and then later on I can switch to motul..
