Considering starting a thread to see who has logged the most miles and what kit while boosted.. Before I'm forced to spend more money on another turbo kit I want to really do my homework..

Great news chuck, thanks!! They were not coated but heat wrapped..

My local shop said they would be able to weld it no problem. I'm sure someone local can do the same. Were yours coated? Can you get it out without pulling the motor again?

I thought I saw your kit was for sale?

Chuck33079 01-10-2015 08:12 PM

From what he said they just have to grind it down, heat it up (600ish degrees) and then weld it. Then let it cool really slow. I didn't think you could weld cast iron, but he's in the NHRA hall of fame for building cars so I'll take his word for it.

I was going to sell it but don't have another 9k laying around. Don't me wrong people I like the kit...

Used to weld cast iron all the time. All alloys. The way you weld it, depends on the alloy. In a nutshell. You V out the crack with a burr bit. Heat the manifold up to temp (depends on alloy on how high). Some alloys, you have to use the backstep welding method. Some alloys you have to peen the weld after welding. You also have to watch your interpass temp. You don't want it to go to high. So now you can wrap the part in Kaowool insulating blank, or oven to slow cool. ;)

Forgot to add. Before you start. Bolt the manifold down to a piece of thick plate. Like 1" thick. This keeps the manifold from distorting.

Wow dude. I sincerely hope that you can finally put the problems to rest with your build. Should be good to go after the exhaust manifold(s) get squared up right?

I know it's kinda off subject but I was just looking at the q60 concept and it will have a 3liter twin turbo engine.. At this point I'm almost certain the new z will be fitted with that engine..

Quick update, at this point I was able to order a new gtm drivers side exhaust manifold. I used a vender just to make sure my money would be refunded in this case but turns out gtm is using a redesign for their casting to hold more heat. The gtm kit is a very good kit other than the exhaust manifolds cracking but then again the greddy manifolds have cracked as well. Hoping I can get by with this until Charles has come out with his new kit and may go for more power.. My new motor is smooth as butter now with zero issues idling or running.

Have you gotten to 17psi?

COSMO 01-24-2015 05:26 PM

Yes after tweaking the boost controller it hits 17psi easily but have only ran it up that high a few times.. Will be sending another oil sample to blackstone soon and will compare the first one to the second..

VSS370z 01-24-2015 07:52 PM

COSMO how many times have you change the oil breaking in the build motor or in how many miles?

COSMO 01-24-2015 08:29 PM

I did one at 600 miles while using the Nissan 5-30 ester oil, another done at 1500 miles with motul 5-40 and about to do another at 3000 miles again using motul 5-40....
