Makes sense. I'd say that you could have a base map sent out to you so you could drive the car there, but we both know you'd get that map three months late after you broke the car in and tuned it. :rofl2:

COSMO 02-21-2014 12:33 PM

You know what I would like to see is a Turbo Shoot-Out between the companies but we all know that would never happen. But just think doing a test a say 10psi per unit just to companies spool up times and hp/tq comparo's.

Chuck33079 02-21-2014 01:04 PM

Too many variables to make it easy. There just aren't enough boosted Z's out there to establish any kind of a baseline. My wild-*** guess would be that numbers between similar turbo sizes would be 90% the same. There's only so many ways to skin the same cat.

:iagree:

Even though most of these are box kits. The manufacturers allow tinkering with it prior to sending it out and not too many of us (me included) actually just ship the kit as designed. Not to mention you would have to have all the cars tuned by the same tuner for a good comparison.

elperuano 02-21-2014 03:36 PM

How'd your motor hold up?

COSMO 02-21-2014 05:50 PM

Sorry man its mardigras weekend... I have gotten it far enough out yet to see the full damage.. Next week..

DIGItonium 02-21-2014 05:56 PM

Aren't there some good UpRev shops in FL that way you don't have to ship it out to GTM?

COSMO 02-21-2014 06:09 PM

Lmao, there's no way in hell I would ever ship anything to gtm....

COSMO 02-22-2014 08:18 AM

Well ladies and gents I have officially survived Mardigras!!!

Brain fart. :rofl2:

Sober yet? Haha. Can you examine the throttle bodies and charge pipes? Just wondering how dirty it can get.

COSMO 02-22-2014 05:24 PM

Well we had to be out of the hotel by 10:00a.m. and after a long @ss night I was starving....:excited::excited:

Just I thought I would post up my progress. The motor and tranny are out.

Rusty 02-24-2014 09:11 PM

Any piston clearance holes in the block?

COSMO 02-24-2014 09:22 PM

There is a hole coming from cylinder #5 behind the turbo. Tomorrow I will remove the turbo's and snap some pics...

tibal 02-25-2014 01:36 PM

Great job Cosmo. Grats on getting that puppy out!

How long total do you speculate it has taken you to get this far? (total time working on it)

You guys aren't going to believe this but my driver side exhaust manifold is CRACKED in 2 places. Holy f-in !@#$%^&*(

COSMO 02-25-2014 01:57 PM

To anyone else looking to buy gtm's CRAP you may want to reconsider... At this point I'm totally screwed.. Also to all of you guys who got out of the group buy on their turbo kit was very smart.

You don't have someone local to weld them up? And is it leaking, or just cracked? I don't see a lot of soot built up, so does the crack even go through?

jwick 02-25-2014 02:03 PM

That blows...I suggest booze and then regroup

COSMO 02-25-2014 02:04 PM

Thank you, I would estimate about 4 hours only because I took my time organizing the parts and tagging everything.

I should fly out to cali and bring my CRACKED exhaust manifold with me to to see how sam would walk with it in his anus...

COSMO 02-25-2014 02:08 PM

It is a crack and it is long. I will take off the turbo to take a better pic.. Honestly at this point I may consider another tt kit since this one only has 3-4 k miles on it and it is already FAILING... !@#$%^&*():shakes head:

I'm not sure how well that would work. It's a high stress/heat area. Maybe if you gouged out the entire cracked area and rewelded it. If you don't dig out the crack I would expect it to be like adding concrete patch to crack in the driveway. They eventually propagate through.

Chuck33079 02-25-2014 02:10 PM

If I were you I'd have it welded up, make a bracket like that other guy with this issue did and go on with life.

COSMO 02-25-2014 02:11 PM

I'm sure it's some cheap Chinese crap he had made from a mold and bought in bulk..

jwick 02-25-2014 02:13 PM

You have the manifold to use as a jig. Can your engine builder build you two custom turbo manifold to fix it? It'll be pricey but it'll definitely fit with the rest of your kit and it it's fabricated instead of cast it'll be an upgrade.

Chuck33079 02-25-2014 02:14 PM

It was esfourteen that had the issue. His name escaped me. He had it repaired and a bracket made. Sharpbycoop(?) also reported a cracked manifold without any leaking or ill effects.

COSMO 02-25-2014 02:17 PM

I guess it's possible but I shouldn't have to do that. I will send gtm an email with pictures just to see how they handle the situation. Yes it may be next Christmas before I get a response but it's worth a try..
I can only feel for all of those people still on the gtm group buy. Along with me this will be a hard lesson learned.

COSMO 02-25-2014 02:19 PM

I hear you chuck but the crack will only continue to grow then completely break!!!!! Are you even sure that cast manifold can even be welded?

Most definitely agree you should not have to deal with it. You paid top dollar for what should have been a kit that gives you years of enjoyment.

If you end up personaly transporting that manifold up Sam's @ss, swing by Houston on your way and Chuck and I will get you drunk on us!

Chuck33079 02-25-2014 02:21 PM

If you have the crack repaired, and then support the turbo with a bracket like esfourteen did, how is it going to break? Maybe the guy who made the brackets for him could turn out another set for you.

COSMO 02-25-2014 02:52 PM

Thanks chuck I will check on it because I have no faith gtm will do the right thing and send me another manifold... I should just stick a stock motor back in there and sell my built motor and go buy a gtr....

Chuck33079 02-25-2014 02:55 PM

You'll get it handled. It'll be better than before. It's just a shitty process. Boost withdrawal may cause depression. Most doctors would prescribe scotch, a cigar and yelling profanity at the car.

Some of the GTRs have turbo-manifold issues too. A guy at the office busted a bolt on the turbo-manifold connection. Motor had to be dropped to fix it. Shop quoted him 24hrs of labor.

24 hrs of labor plus GTR tax had to be a fortune.

elperuano 02-25-2014 02:59 PM

So the block itself is still good? The manifolds have cracked. Sharpbycoop reported it but didn't seem affect his built block and he banged on it hard. Course it doesn't excuse it.
Good luck buddy.
