Best OBD system for FI....?
Hey guys,
I had the plans of using my empty cubby to accomodate 4 or 5 gauges to keep track of the vitals of my TT setup. After seeing it done on another vehicle it looks kind of tacky and to ricer for me. Gauges I need displayed are BOOST, AIR/FUEL, OIL PRESS., FUEL PRESS, and maybe AIR INTAKE TEMP. I have started looking around at the OBD systems and am having difficulties figuring out which ones will read what I need and which ones will cost me hundreds of dollars more to buy the add on sensors i need. Been looking at the CAMP 2, Blitz R-VIT DS, and possibly the MAGDEN, or RACE CAPTURE PRO but its hard to find these now. So can anyone advise me on what route to go in order to read what Id like in the most financially sound manner? Are there any Im missing that would get the job done? |

Aren't the CAMP and MAGDEN not made anymore? The problem with all of them is the cost of the sensors. AFR seems particularly bad. Maybe if you went with a standalone AFR gauge and ran the rest off the OBD system.

I know a few people have done carPC and it looks great, fairly cheap to build and put in but again the sensors is where you spend the money. Since our OBDII system does not read boost, AFR, etc you have to buy additional sensors.

So the only real option is to buy the Blitz and get raped on sensors or DIY a computer and get raped on sensors? Guess I'll stick with my gauges.

Yeah, buying 3 gauges and replacing the OEM ones plus install is properly overall cheaper. Can pick the primary 3 you need and even do 1 that is a multi setup.

I'll keep the boost and AFR on the A pillar and add a multi for oil and water temps, and standalone EGT and oil pressure. It'll still be under the cost of setting up something that uses the nav screen.

I don't know if it will work for you, but I bought a OBD2 dongle and use the dashcommand app on an ipad. There are faster blue tooth options, than the one I have, out there if you search on the forums. Kiwi comes to mind and OBDX I think? You I kept the cubby in tact and fabricated a way to mount the ipad when I want the readings or a gps. It's in my build thread (linked below) if you want to check it out.
***edit, I'm not certain all the things in your list are there, but if you go that direction I can certainly check for you, or for $9.99 you can try it yourself from the app store.

im not FI yet but I have a Racepak Iq3 dataloger, lap timer, and obd2 connection, you can then buy sensors (very expensive).
For now it was installed here since once I get my steering wheel + roll bar made it will be moved infront of the dash here: |

I would be ok with keeping my boost and AFR gauges in the A pillar. So then can this carPC deal read me out oil and fuel pressure and Intake temps? |

Since I don't have FI, maybe I'm not understanding this. But if your ECU has the data you should be able to find an app to read it. The dashcommand that I'm using also does lap recording, 0-60, 1/4. There are countless ways to set it up and a super long list of things it reads. I just snap my ipad in place and plug in the OBD2 reader.

I should add that I already have all 5 guages I need that I had in my 350Z. But that had nav and I had 3 in the pillar with the AFR in front of my analog speedo since i used the digi and the oil temp under the wheel to the right. It looked gawky but I needed to read the vitals since I had a setup the was super prone to failure with the insane setup I had...Twincharged..lol.
But I want to keep my 370 nice and clean. I can get a screen for the cubby for like 40 bucks. So really all i need it to read is Oil/water pressures and AIT's. |

Did your Ipad just sit in like that or did you make some sort of mold for it? How does the OBD2 reader hook up to the Ipad? Special adapter? Can I possibly ask you anymore questions?..Lol. |

DashCommand - Palmer Performance Engineering, Inc. for this specific app. The ipad install took a little more than an hour. Literally, all I did was take the part of the dash off that contains the cubby and epoxy 4 earth magnets behind it. Then bought a cheap ipad case and put 4 magnets on that which lined up to the ones behind the dash. The ipad clicks in and out of place with the magnets. You can PM me or ask whatever you'd like! I was actually thinking about doing a diy on this, but there didn't seem to be much interest.

Here's the Dashcommand user manual. Hopefully, you can find what you need in there
