GTM Stage 1 SC purchased

Ok...I'm pretty hyped up right now! Just purchased my SC kit from GTM! I've talked to a couple people on here already about what supporting mods to get for it...and they've given me some input. I've also looked at some other peoples builds on here and gotten some info. What most of them lack are brand names and quality. So if you could please help me out with that info I'd appreciate it.

I know I need an oil cooler. Should I purchase the one they have or are there better more efficient options?

I'm not sure if I need a new clutch or flywheel... but if so what are some brands you can suggest?

I'm not too positive on what else I would need.

Anyway, it may be a minute before I install it because I'll be out on a carrier...but it will be done. Hopefully sooner than later. Depending on my schedule. :D

Voice59 10-15-2013 04:38 PM

btw I also have Z1 headers and HFC's(both not installed). I've seen on countless threads that they advise against the HFC's. If I get that advice reinforced by the installers then I'll be selling those.

Also would the motordyne m370 intake manifold help to increase gains?

theDreamer 10-15-2013 04:50 PM

Congrats on the purchase!
Looking forward to your results, any ETA on ship date?

Voice59 10-15-2013 05:04 PM

Not yet...I literally just did it maybe 20 minutes ago. I'll get back to you with the info. Thanks man!

Grats bro, that sexy-azz car deserves it!

Thanks man. I'm taking my time, and trying to do it right the first time.

Any suggestions for supporting mods? A direction?

SPOHN 10-15-2013 07:40 PM

Clutch kit will be needed eventually so why not the same time as the SC. Joe@ ZSpeed Performance Nissan Infiniti Specialist can hook you up. Many combinations to choose from. Tell him your power levels and uses with your car and he can get it going.

SS_Firehawk 10-15-2013 07:54 PM

With an oil cooler, might as well order from GTM as well. You'll know they will fit with the kit with no modification. Your cats should be fine, exhaust temps aren't like a turbo'd car. They will help with some needed backpressure too (gets the sc in it's efficiency range). As for clutch and flywheel, GTM didn't care for the JWT kit I have in mine... I'm kinda running it at the ragged edge. The normal kits generally ship within a few weeks (dont quote me on that).

So they have different options...I imagine some that feel like stock just "stronger"..

Looks I'll go with GTM's oil cooler set up then. I imagine it should be more than enough for just "spirited driving"?

Chuck33079 10-15-2013 09:18 PM

Go larger than you think you need on the oil cooler. You can always block it off in winter. You can't add capacity in summer. Budget in gauges too. Maybe a radiator. Ask GTM if you need the fuel pump relay. Maybe go a size up on injectors and fuel pump so you can throw on a smaller pulley down the line without changing too much else.

Voice59 10-15-2013 09:19 PM

lol@normal kits. Yeah.. twin SC...I'm not on that level. I'll stick with regular ol' stage 1.

Chuck33079 10-15-2013 09:20 PM

The more you buy from GTM, the more flexible they become on pricing. They'll make you a deal if you buy enough from them.

Any specific brands on the gauges. I'm thinking about just replacing the stock ones. Unless you guys would advise on a better option. I'll inquire to GTM about the other stuff.

Chuck33079 10-15-2013 09:23 PM

Boost, afr and oil temp in the stock location maybe? I just went with boost and afr on the a pillar. GTM sells Defi gauges, and they're fantastic. There are others out there, but it's easier to get everything sent to you in one box.

Voice59 10-15-2013 09:26 PM

Cool, I'll definitely look into that. And talk to them, maybe they can work a deal out with me like you said. That would definitely help things.

Chuck33079 10-15-2013 09:29 PM

Don't expect it to be huge, but there's some wiggle room if you buy everything from them. They're good guys. They'll steer you right.

snowsurfdirtx 10-15-2013 09:30 PM

I ordered my kit a month ago. They said lead time would be 4 weeks or so.. I'm gonna give em a ring tomorrow and check on the status since I haven't received a tracking # yet.

I just went with a defi red racer boost gauge and an aeroforce interceptor with analog inputs for oil pressure and wideband o2. then i can still monitor everything else the car monitors if i feel like it and its only two gauges.

25 row oil cooler is recommended too by the way. I'm waiting on the kit to see how everything looks before i fab my own lines / bracket and stuff for it or just order them through GTM to save some *** pain.

anyway, congratz on the purchase! there's great info on here. read every build for the gtm superchargers you can on here, i learned a TON. dmhenderson, Baer, fryzia to name a few helpful and knowledgeable guys. if you have any questions, i'll try my best to answer since hopefully I'll be installing in the next couple weeks

Steve

Voice59 10-15-2013 09:34 PM

Thanks for the inputs everyone. Chuck, every little bit counts. They said they had a military discount and that they'd apply it to the order so that's a plus. They seem like stand up guys so far... and from what I can tell very few people have any kind of issues other than wait time.

Liquid_G 10-16-2013 06:46 AM

Congrats man. Over 20k miles on mine over 2 yrs and still running great.

Second the opinion in upgrading clutch and csc. And 25row oil cooler is perfect for me.

Voice59 10-16-2013 07:53 AM

Awesome. I was slightly worried about longevity and reliability. I'll be looking at options for a clutch and csc toinght. And I'll go with their oil cooler option. What psi are you running and what are your rwhp and tq numbers?

theDreamer 10-16-2013 09:41 AM

I would not worry too much about that, have a good install and solid tune and follow the proper maintenance schedule.
I am just about to hit 50k miles with my stage 1 SC (GTM), at about to hit 70k miles overall with my Z.

ANMVQ 10-16-2013 12:16 PM

Plus 1 for the solid install , mine was screwed an I only got 6 months and 5k out of mine before boom :(

I'm looking at getting installed and tuned at Hill's Garage in Maryland when I get around to doing it. May I ask what psi and your numbers are in terms of rwhp and tq?

I am at 8PSI and putting down 400HP & 340TQ.

Voice59 10-16-2013 06:31 PM

Cool.. I think I may push a little more psi. Maybe around 9, 9.5. Hopefully get 450 whp. Might be stretching it though.

Voice59 10-17-2013 06:15 AM

I emailed GTM about all the possible supporting modifications to safely and reliably extract more power from the kit. I'm waiting on a response. So (fingers crossed) once I get that response I'll be able to start making some more moves.

theDreamer 10-17-2013 10:02 AM

To run higher PSI on a SC you will need to get a smaller pulley, not sure if anyone with a stage 1 has done that yet actually. Would be curious to see the results and if it overspins the unit.

Voice59 10-18-2013 06:48 AM

I may be upgrading to the 1.5. I'll let you guys know if that goes through.

You may want to pm me I have a lot of stuff that is right up your alley.

Voice59 10-21-2013 11:10 AM

As of now the Stage 1 is ordered, upgrading to 1.5 this afternoon once I call them. Oil cooler with thermostatic plate added to the order. Custom stage 2 clutch kit from Zspeed along with supporting parts (csc, etc). Working something out for some gauges lol. Anything else I may need? I saw some people including radiatiors. Doing research on that.

Again, I'm trying to build a powerful, [U]reliable[U], car. So if there's anything else you guys would suggest, let me know.

To be honest, this motor can use all the cooling it can get, especially FI. Half my costs were supporting the power. 3/4 of that was just on cooling. Yes, I consider meth as a method of cooling. So be sure you have your budget and another budget for "incidentals"... GTM won't steer you wrong, but what they recommend and what you need are two different things.

Voice59 10-21-2013 11:47 AM

What would you suggest to aid with cooling?

SS_Firehawk 10-21-2013 11:57 AM

Kinda depends on your location and how you use your car

Chuck33079 10-21-2013 11:58 AM

A radiator at the minimum, maybe fans/shroud. Have the tuner set the fan temps lower through Uprev.

Voice59 10-21-2013 12:00 PM

I'm in VA..it's actually starting to get chilly about now. In terms of heat it really doesn't get that bad. Might be high 90's with a ton of humidity in the summer.
