Properly done, the powdercoating is only on the end of the fins. The core is 3-4" thick through the cooler. It doesn't affect heat transfer at all. Due to Faraday Cage effect, there is no way for powder to even get in between the fins more than about 1/64" of an inch.

<threadjack> Mike, can you PM a quote to powdercoat a FMIC the same color as the factory sport brake calipers? Ball park is fine since they are all different. </threadjack>

Powder coating
I had my whole piping and intercooler powder coated black.
It looks great and I never saw high temps. I would recommend. http://i936.photobucket.com/albums/a...B6606DC139.jpg And the pipes... http://i936.photobucket.com/albums/a...les/null-4.jpg |
I have not heard or seen anything that would prevent an intercooler from working unless you globbed the paint on the intercooler.
I would even say just simple black spray paint would work as long as you sprayed light coats. |
If you use paint use radiator paint
