My Stillen blower blew up :(
So I just had the Stillen supercharger installed a couple weeks ago. I did a 1500 mile road trip from South Carolina to Texas and everything was great. I've been keeping an eye on the fluid making sure everything was good and making sure it was topped off and NOT overfilled.
Just this morning the supercharger whine seemed to be louder than normal, then this afternoon it got really loud and then grinding noises from hell! Sucky thing is that I'm kinda stuck in Texas for military training. Going to have to get the car trucked/shipped back to the Carolina's to get repaired I never heard of a Stillen Vortech supercharger doing this before. I pulled the dipstick and this is what I saw: Its usually a red/pink fluid right in the middle of the hash marks |

I've seen this before in my 350Z days. Take more pics. Ensure there is no leaks from anywhere on the installation part. They should replace. It happens sometimes. As long as Stillen replaces I wouldn't worry. It looks dry as a bone. Something internal must of fail. Is there any fluid in the piping? Basing this on a perfect install.

Unfortunately I don't have any proper tools to be doing anything to the car and I'm too busy with military training to do anything about it. This wouldn't impact me so much if I wasn't half way across the country away from home, but stuff happens :P

If you haven't done so yet, give Stillen a ring. Assuming the kit was installed properly, they should give you a replacement blower.

If you are close to Houston, contact JTran Studios. They do a lot of Stillen S/C installs, and communicate with Stillen regularly. Maybe they can fix you up and you can drive it home.
They would know better than me, but maybe you can pull the small rear belt off of the blower, then baby it to them to get a replacement blower.

Please give me a call so we can get this sorted out for you right away. If you can also send me an email with some pictures of the entire top of the blower (not just the dipstick) that would be very helpful. My email address is kmillen@stillen.com and my phone number is 800-576-2131 ext. 173. Thank you very much! Kyle |

Thanks for posting up, Kyle. I tried calling you but got your voicemail, so I left my number. I'll try and get those pics you requested and shoot those out to you tomorrow.

Just wanted to give an update for the forum:
Firedan and I touched bases by phone this afternoon and we were able to get some more info. Looks like this was actually a second hand kit. While the second installation was completed a week ago the original installation was performed on a G37 back in late 2010. The kit was removed from the G37 after an accident which left the car as a total loss. We've actually been working with Firedan for the last month or so to get him the necessary parts to convert the kit from a G to a Z. Along with the additional parts that were left in the G there are quite a few components that vary from the Z to the G kits. Fortunately Firedan has been able to identify a lot of the parts he did and/or didn't have. We will continue working with Firedan to get his car back on the road as quickly as possible. |

So I talked to VSR who pulled the Stillen supercharger off. They didn't see any external signs of damage; leaking fluid, etc,....so looking like something internal in the Vortech unit failed. They'll be handling the rebuild and re-selling the kit from their shop in Florida.
