I just hope that they dont get heat soaked and rob us of power.

That's why the water is pumped into and out of the intercooler continuously. It is still possible for the intercooler to be heatsoaked, but we will have to see what Stillen says when they begin real world testing.

This setup is almost identical to computer hardware cooling, and if the level of water in/out is efficient then there will be no issues. I have seen 100°C CPUs drop into the 50-55°C range with a medium to high water cooling system.

Yep, I am still in them. I saw the blog post and instantly thought PC setup. Only thing that would be better would be certain types of oils, I have seen PCs setup with an oil liquid and they cool about 10°C lower but the oil is extremely expensive from what I hear.

Derailed, PC v. Supercharger, very similar.

The issue is whether or not the heat exchanger can keep the air cool under boosted runs - Water IC systems seem to heat soak more easily than A/A systems.

my favorite was the guys who immeressed in entire computer except the drives in a cooler full of nonconductive liquid and ran liquid nitrogen through a heat exchanger in the fluid. pushed a 1 ghz processor up to 3ghz with -10degree cpu temps.
which is actually similar to the water to air coolers that are basically an air to air intercooler that is sealed up and has water flowing around it like a water jacket like the vortech ones. Last edited by 1slow370; 01-17-2010 at 11:39 PM. |

Although with 2-3 370's there, I think that's definitely higher than the average civilian concentration of Zs. I've only seen one driving around Charlotte here in the last 6 months. |

There is definitely a lot to account for when engineering an air to water intercooler system. You need to look at the volume of water, the size of the heat exchanger, the size of the intercooler, the speed of the water...There is a lot that goes into developing an adequately sized air to water intercooler system.
Fortunately we have a lot of experience with air to water intercoolers being incorporated into the intake manifold like we've done on our 350Z and our Nissan Titan. Actually, the heat exchanger that we're using out front, is larger than any heat exchanger Magnusson supercharger's uses on any of their V8 kits. On the 350Z a few years ago we actually did a test with 9 other cars all equipped with forced induction kits. Only two of the cars were able to complete all of the laps around the track without overheating or going into limp mode. One was our car and if memory serves correctly, I think the other was the Greddy twin turbo car. Last edited by Kyle@STILLEN; 01-18-2010 at 01:58 PM. |
