Motordyne Manifold with boost

Anyone running boost with the motordyne manifold?
On the DE motor guys ran the 5/16 spacer with good results. I did as well. Hoping anyone can chime in.

I would like to know this but I am not willing to test it lol

I bet you it results in an up-tick in torque. Pressurized air causes tubes to have different (Higher, I would think) resonant frequencies, meaning an intake runner tuned for 7500RPM on this engine may be tuned for much higher at more than 1 atmosphere of boost.

Edit: Which is to say, an intake tuned for a lower RPM (like the HR intake) would benefit our engine in that case because it pushes the resonances back down into a usable range.

The spacer mentioned above does the same thing, increases volume of the runner, thus decreasing resonant frequency.

That does make sense.
I wish someone tried this. I might be able to get one for cheap, but not sure if it would be beneficial to me. Also it would mean I would have to re-tune and thas another 8 hour road trip!

There are a few people who do have it. But it isn't worth it.
The 1% gain isn't worth the 5% higher chance of your car exploding.

I make a similar manifold, and I pressure test it, but I don't put it under pressure for hours upon hours

Thanks for the replies. Guess it's a no go

If a spacer really does that much positive to the motor, why haven't we seen them for a 370z yet? Doesn't seem like much production work is needed vs engineering work?

I had in on my z. :D

^ yea. I don't even see that much NA guys run the motordyne manifold. On the DE platform almost everyone had the 5/16 spacer. I'm guessing these motors jus flow too well for it to have any REAL worthwhile positive gains

i would like to see how the kinetix mani does with boost myself. the shortage of intake options for our car is astounding

elperuano 04-24-2013 04:47 PM

Didn't even know Kinetix made a manifold for the g37/370

edub370 04-24-2013 04:51 PM

they made something like 5 of them

lost hp on NA apps from what i read. something about too much airflow or something. could potentially be great with boosted apps. Its a shame, because their manifold was a work of art!

3 were made, no dynos, no proof of gains

They don't offer too many options because the stock intake does pretty well as is. The Motordyne didn't make power up-top, but it makes a good amount of horsepower and torque in the mid-range.

When I build my motor next year, I'll be putting the Motordyne manifold on my car and going with the stage 3 supercharger upgrade kit.

When I was N/A I tuned my car with the MD intake compared to the stock. Tuned, it made 14 - 16ft-lbs torque in the mid-range more than with the stock manifold, and 12whp in the mid-range.

elperuano 04-24-2013 07:33 PM

With my current hp/tq numbers I'd be scared of more tq. 500 is pretty much max for me. Wish someone with turbos had this. I'm sure it's not worth it at this point, but built block and more boost I'd like to see if it helps at all. Car has so much midrange I'd prefer more top end power.
