I was going to button the car back up and drop her back off the stands in order to get some mileage on my clutch so after the turbo I can give her hell.

However, after seeing how easy the demon bolts were to get at with the tranny out of the way I decided to just take my cats off and let her sit as a statue until I install the kit. I pre-soaked the bolts with PB blaster overnight and attacked them the next morning.

I have NO idea how guys are doing this with having such a limited space. I do only have 10k on my car but its an 09 so 5 years of corrosion contributed to the demonicizing.

HERE IS WHAT HAPPENED!! Yup that's not 1 but 2 broken sockets. Had to go get an HD set with the thick sidewalls. These are craftsmen too with a lifetime warranty.

First step, Don't buy craftsman tools, Buy good tools like Mac, Snap-on, Matco ect. Craftsman are Chinese crap about the same quality as harbor freight tools anymore.

We find it easier to attack these from the top, after removing the intake boxes, with a long 1/2" drive extension, 1/2" breaker bar or if you have available a hefty 3/4" impact gun.

I agree with this. From the top, the bolts are a cakewalk. I used Harbor Freight 1/2" drive impact sockets and extensions with a 30" breaker bar. Once I had the intakes off, it took no more than 20 minutes.

I bought a ton of harbor friend and craftsmen tools. It still got the job done.

THe demon bolts are easy with a torch. make sure you get a torch.

The last guy to do a write up on his install of the BP kit said it would have taken him 6 hours less to do the install if it weren't for those bolts. It took an hour here. 6X that long and I would have lit the damn thing on fire. :icon14:

Im pretty sure the only reason they broke loose is from the amount of unheard of swear words laid upon them.

That was me. I didn't have a torch at first. I literally lit it on fire to get it off.

I remember my first time hittin 160+ I was pissed at my wife and I was entering the highway she was sittin right next to me. I started going thru the gears redlining 3rd all the way to 5th, when I changed to 6th my needle was at 160 and I froze for a split second trying to figure out how I got there so fast and took my foot off the gas. I'm not sure how it is in a Z but in a G it doesn't even feel like 160. Even my wife didn't realize until we made up and I told her the next day. She couldn't believe it neither.

I have done 180 in my z twice and 160 a bunch of times I am still in 5 gear at 160.I know what your saying I have giving people a ride in my car and when I tell them how fast we just went the look on there face is priceless.

Got to love the 3.3 final drive

Hey Joe,thanks for your help with my clutch/flywheel and eboost controller. not often a vendor calls you on a Sunday to straighten out some shipping questions.

and right on with the tools, though i shouldnt have a problem since ive already removed the stock cats for FI ones.

Now that the clutch kit is on the way im planning to move my build up to the 28th.

Joe is great, just heard a box of goodies is sitting at the house from him! Also agree 10x, I got the demon bolt from the top as well, I was expecting a fight but with 1/2" drive, done deal, just make sure the socket is seated on the bolt or it will not be a desirable outcome, I cheat tho, I have 13 technician tool boxes at my disposal. :happydance:

Also I think im gonna do this as well, not like those damn slats are doing much, my fangs are in dire need or repainting so a little work with the dremel and multi-tool are in order! The car is no doubt a sleeper with the BP kit but not many people will understand its an intercooler anyway.

You suck. Now I have to drool over your build thread while still waiting to start mine.:shakes head:

I did get the clutch installed last Thursday. The damn thing is STOUT but it left the factory engagement points the same, so ALL in ALL I call it a win. Not like I expected a pressure plate good for over 500ft-lbs was going to be easy on the leg in the first place.:rofl2:

Joepro 03-17-2014 06:47 PM

I have been so adjusted to mine I did not realized how stiff it was but I drove another Z the other day and found out its a good bit stiffer, also have the weaker helper spring in as well.

yes, but look at it this way, once i have mine installed i have to do the baby miles on the clutch while your doing your build. we should be driving under full boost at the same time LOL
