bov install cold side or hot
Hi guys i was wondering do u guys run your bovs on the cold side or hot side of the intercooler ? i know each kit is different some kits run them on the intercooler it self, some kits if i am not mistaken run one on the cold side and one on the hot side ,etc etc , so wht do u guys think ? i know if you google this thread in other forums i will find millions of answer, but i thought ill open a new one in the thread i trust the most and i am loyal to ,because its the best and its where i learn something everyday.

GTR have them in front of throttle (like GTM) so i would go for that route..

gtm has theirs in the lower intercooler pipes not next to the throttle body , we have a gtm kit (stage1) in another z here, being too close to the throttle might affect the tune slightly so the safest is as far away as possible like most kits for Z's.the greddy kit didnt come with bovs so we had it (tial bov)installed on both the cold side of the intercooler piping, with direct ports to the brass fitting behind the throttle body, no t fittings , no b.s, but the sound isnt that impressive or pressure coming out isnt much ( we have the right spring as well) once u drive a gtm kit it sounds outstanding .

gtr's is how most stock turbo cars are. u generally want it as close to the tb as u can, but its not a huge deal either way

In theory, you should have them pre-IC so that you do not cool intake charge just to then vent it; the idea being to save the IC from unnecessary heat soak. Chances are that the real world difference would be marginal if not undetectable, though.

well i have both welded on lower pipes coming out to the intercooler (cold side) , After more research and looking at how gtm setup is they install them one the cold side and one on the hot side as you see in pic i attached, which to me is the best, it takes out the extra unwanted air (pressure) in both pipes. i know to each his own in this but i am looking for performance and sound as well, so having them next to the throttle body( gtr set up) will give me the same performance and sound i have now which i am trying to make it
better. this will confuse us abit :icon17: FI owners hehehhe |
BOV's are typically mounted between the throttle body and the outlet of the intercooler.

your right , but the hole debate is which pipes to weld them on and why , if you look at the pic i attached (gtm kit) one bov is on the lower pipe(cold side) and the other is on the upper (hot side) , the other pics other members posted are next to the throttle body (cold side) and if you google installing bov on cold or hot side , you will see that their are different opinions in other forums , such as ppl who want to get the wooooooosh sound (loudest) and performance should add the bov on the hot side , ppl who want the normal sound woosh and also performance put it on the cold side, since we have 2 bovs i think the trick gtm used is having both worlds one cold and one hot upper pipe and lower pipe, i am thinking of re-welding my pipes and making the set up similar to the pic i posted to see the difference and share as well.

The most important part of a BOV install is keeping the length of the vacuum hose between the intake manifold and the BOV as short as possible.
The new BW turbos have the BOV integrated on the compressor cover for example...it does not matter where the BOV is located, as long as the proper size hose is used and the length is kept reasonable. With the twin scroll kit, the BOV is just before the intercooler inlet. The instructions say to drill/tapp the front most part of the intake manifold to reduce the vacuum hose length. This configuration works just fine. |
Sasha, After reading I got 4mm or 1/8 diameter brass fitting and hose
But today tial tech said to use to 1/4 brass fitting and hoses , I know all will work , the one million dollar question if I swapped the bovs from both the cold side of the intercooler to one being on the cold side and one being on the hot side would the sound be more as ppl advise and why ? And since the gtm kit I refer is set up this way? Guess one way to find out |
So the farther bov the less vacuum you have due to the length of the hose
