Wrong form of used. Think "implemented" not "previously installed."

To be honest I'm not going to come on here and bash GTM. I won't do it. But with that being said I'm being told this is the same turbo that was used on a subbie. Not trying to start anything.

Unless they've switched to IHI turbos, that can't be the case. Mitsus are common upgrades on Subies. Maybe a slight miscommunication? 16/18/20Gs are fairly common turbos. That's a good part of the reason this kit can hit the price point it does. There's nothing wrong with them, I just prefer ball bearing to journal bearings.

True, I read the comment to mean current Subies. They've been IHI since at least 2002 here.

They both have the ups and downs. Journal bearing hold up better for tracking and are far cheaper to rebuild. Ball bearing definitely spool better in all forms but have a shorter life span(how much, don't know). But most times you have to replace the turbo. From what I read. Not sure about rebuilding. Either way cost is higher.
I still like ball bearings myself. I might be upgrading.

Ball bearing turbos require less oil flow, lower chance of seal leakage, better shaft damping, no thrust bearings, and overall less wear....

EDIT: there's no solid info besides old timers claiming there JB have lasted as long as there motors and being cheaper to rebuild. So BB FTW.
