GTM Performance Engineering: 370Z MHI Twin Turbo Pre-Release

As some of you know, we’ve been working on a new Twin Turbo kit for the 370Z using Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) turbochargers. The impetus behind this new development was the need for a more affordable turbo kit option for 370Z owners. The MHI turbos deliver great power at a nice price point…that is value at its core. While it is nice to have a system with all kinds of bling and fancy components, the average enthusiast is really after one thing: balls to the walls performance. This new kit offers that in spades while being a no-frills, no-BS kind of system that is easy to install with unbeatable value. Since bells, whistles and shiny manifolds that no-one will ever see once installed under your hood involve lots of unnecessary cost that drives up the price for a twin turbo system, it stands to reason that outstanding performance can be affordable if you just get to the meat and potatoes of what makes a car fast.

We’ve been twin turbocharging the Z since the 350z first came out back in 2002. Back then, the motor would start bending rods at 400whp and a safe setup only made 380whp. Since most people want a fast car with as little investment as possible, most people don’t want to build the engine unless they absolutely have to and the new 370Z really has a lot of advantages that the old platform didn’t. The VQ37 is a stout engine that can handle 500whp without skipping a beat. This allows the average enthusiast to make great power with bolt on parts.

Your average enthusiast driving their car on the street with a stock block really benefits from having the widest possible power band that allows them to drop the hammer at virtually any rpm while delivering that kick in the gut acceleration that a responsive twin turbo system can deliver. For our new MHI Twin Turbo Kit, we chose the Mitsubishi TD05-16g with a 7cm housing for quick response with good top-end performance, the TD05-18g with an 8cm housing for better top-end performance with reasonable response and the TD06-20g with an 8cm housing for an all out built engine setup shooting for 900hp. In keeping with the theme of affordability, all three turbo options are the same price.

Some of the other things we are addressing with this kit involve installation. We have revised our exhaust manifold design so that drilling and tapping the cylinder head is a thing of the past. For safety, the factory crash bar is maintained and the factory steering coupler is untouched.

Some of the reasons why our upcoming MHI kit has unbeatable value are listed below.

1) The GTM MHI Kit keeps the factory crash bar. The competition does not.
2) The GTM MHI Kit is compatible with automatic and manual transmissions. Some competing products are only compatible with manual transmissions.
3) The GTM MHI Kit offers the best value since it will be more affordable than the other turbo kits on the market. Furthermore, it has the potential to deliver more power out of the gate. 16g’s, 18g’s, and 20g’s are all priced the same so only your thirst for power is the limit.
4) GTM offers a true Turn-Key Solution with our wealth of experience with tuning this platform.
5) GTM is a business with a brick and mortar facility with bona fide business hours, phone number, e-mail address and fax number.
6) GTM has been in business for 26 years.
7) The GTM MHI kit is compatible with every aftermarket cat-back on the market. Some competing forced induction solutions are not.
8) There is no drilling and tapping of the cylinder head or upper oil pan with this new kit and no scavenge pump required.
9) The factory steering system remains intact.
10) The GTM MHI Kit can use the factory catalytic converters. Some competing forced induction systems require emissions equipment to be removed.
11) The GTM MHI Kit comes with a baffled oil pan that has one-way anti-slosh valves. This alleviates the need to drill and tap the upper oil pan while simultaneously improving engine oil control and capacity.
12) 3” MAF piping allows for more refined tuning without the need for higher reading MAF sensors.
13) This kit, once released, will be on the shelf and ready to ship with same to next business day turnaround.
14) The GTM MHI Kit does not need to be removed for a clutch job. Some competing forced induction systems have to be almost completely removed in order to change a maintenance item.
15) The GTM MHI Kit comes with user configurable blow off valves. They can be setup for full recirculation for ultra stealth operation, partial recirculation for stealth at low boost with vent to atmosphere at higher boost or full on, in your face vent to atmosphere for maximum sound. The blow off valves themselves also have preload adjustment to account for various setups.
16) Like every system we offer, the GTM MHI Kit will have more area under the curve than any other system on the market. Area under the curve is what makes a car fast and the more there is, the faster the car will be.
17) Financing available.

Over the next couple days, we will be sharing dyno results and we’re shooting to have a press release by the end of the week. We are also looking into renting California Speedway for a day so we can take this thing to the track for some 1/4 mile testing.

In the meantime, here are some pictures:

Do you sell that oil pan individually? I might pull the trigger on that!

Ok so tell us the difference between this kit and your stage 1 and stage 2 kit? I wish I would have known or heard about this before buying your stage 2 kit only a month ago since I wouldnt have to drill and tap a bunch of things.... Are the turbo's like the garretts oil and water cooled or just oil cooled??

tower74 03-11-2013 10:07 PM

I paid 5g for the STS kit shipped all the way to Canada . So STS is still cheaper but this is twice the kit

Petty sure as I had asked Sam about this kit on there Facebook page.

Punk86 03-12-2013 08:53 AM

Wow, I am probably going really consider this kit!

fuct 03-12-2013 09:23 AM

its so exciting to see our platform getting these new kits! i figured low sales volumes were guna ruin it for us.

ZMan8 03-12-2013 09:38 AM

Subd

batboyvaj 03-12-2013 09:39 AM

I might have missed it, but will this kit work with oil cooler setups? Or does the charge piping route by the oil filter requiring a oil filter relocation.

Nixlimited 03-12-2013 09:48 AM

Looking good! I finally get to see what's going on my car!!

DarkJak 03-12-2013 01:05 PM

Love that you can keep the stock crash bar! It's gonna be a difficult decision between this and the fast intentions kit.

That was my point. They had stated it doesn't matter what size of turbo you want. It all costs the same price. So again this is cheaper than STS.:tiphat:

Haha, you and me both :rofl2: hopefully after all the new twin turbo and CARB stuff settles, they can give me info on mine

That shot of the intercooler, the top where the intake pipes connect to doesn't look like the one in the pictures. I'm really interested in seeing the new exhaust manifold design and if it's going to find it's way in the other TT kits.

VSS370z 03-12-2013 01:59 PM

Now the race is on!! :excited:

elperuano 03-12-2013 02:18 PM

I also would like to know the difference from this kit and the Garrett turbos u have also.

tower74 03-12-2013 02:21 PM

Why do I have a feeling that being boosted is no longer going to be out of reach for the average guy/girl. Damn, now no one will feel special. Thanks GTM;)
