All Spohn would really need is another 34 row and some coin for the kit
Then it would turn into an even larger radiator, boost controller, more gauges, and more money into the fire lol.

I say do it....

Are the turbo's like the garretts oil and water cooled or just oil cooled??
We’ve been talking about this development for a while in this thread: GTM Performance Engineering: GTM TD05 16G Test Results 91 Octane 7AT

While we acknowledge the need to have a kit that is geared for a price conscious consumer, it is certainly not our intent to skimp on quality. As such, the MHI kit is a high quality system that uses components that are proven and reliable while being less expensive to manufacture. For example, the Mitsubishi turbos have been used in OEM applications for a long time with a great track record for success. In addition, Mitsubishi turbos are generally water cooled and engine oil lubricated. That said, there are forced induction solutions for this platform that use the oil cooled versions of the Mitsubishi turbos. Since we recognize the importance of keeping the CHRA cool, we use the water cooled version in our MHI kit.

One other major difference between this new kit and our current Garrett based kit is the philosophy driving the design. Our original premise for our Garrett twin turbo kit was big power and scalability. This new kit is designed with the premise of being less invasive to the car while keeping as much OEM equipment intact and undisturbed as possible with more than enough power for the stock engine. This kit isn’t setup for a Stage 6 1300hp setup the way our Garrett based kit is. We’re really going for solid, stock block numbers with unbeatable response with good power potential as well. The optional 20g turbos for example are capable of 880hp which is more than enough for the vast majority of people looking to do forced induction. The 16g setup is capable of making enough power to max out the stock block with excellent boost response and drivability. After all, there is no reason to have a laggy turbo setup on the stock engine when a smaller, more responsive setup is more than capable of delivering more power than the stock engine can take reliably.

This philosophy can be seen in our intercooler design and intercooler piping. To leverage economy of scale, our MHI kit uses a pair of intercoolers instead of the big single intercooler used in our Garrett based kit. Together these intercoolers are rated for 900hp while our big single on our Garrett kit is rated for 1000hp.

Keep in mind, that our Garrett based kit is without a doubt an outstanding system with top notch hardware that is tough for our competitors to beat. It still outspools the competition while delivering great horsepower and torque. In addition, our Garrett kit still has fantastic value, just at a higher price point than our MHI kit

Since oil cooling is always an important factor on these cars, there is room to mount an oil cooler kit in conjunction with our new MHI kit as well as our current Garrett based kit. Also, keep in mind that the oil pan that comes with our MHI kit improves oil cooling since it is a cast aluminum unit with cooling fins. Our new oil pan is also 30% larger than the GReddy oil pan and includes our baffling system and anti-slosh valves as standard.

As with our current Twin Turbo Kits, there is no issue installing this system on the Nismo.

It is a lot easier than you think. Obviously it really depends on your goals and what you are after. So let’s say you are after a 500 wheel horsepower daily driver car that is fun and reliable which most people in this forum are after. Why would you spend almost twice as much to get the same horsepower number? Why would you want less area under the curve for more money? Having a fun, responsive car is what having a turbo kit is all about. Our new kit and our existing kit have better response and more area under the curve than anything else on the market. Look at the dyno graphs to see it for yourself.

Our kits work flawlessly straight out of the box thanks to our experience in designing and tuning forced induction systems on this platform. What you see is what you get. You don’t have to upgrade MAF sensors since our kits come with 3” MAF housings. The competition already made a mistake by going with 2.5” piping and then recently switched to 2.75” piping to prevent the MAF sensors from getting maxed out. We have not had any fuel pressure issues on any of the stock engine turbo setups we’ve ever done.

Our goal is to have these kits available and on the shelf. No waiting. So, after stating all the above, why would you consider anything but this kit?

The trap doors are standard with the oil pan. The mounting points you are referencing are in fact for heat shields to reduce radiant heat under the hood and keep it where it belongs: in the exhaust.

Will the 16g option with internal waste gates cause boost creep issues with a free flowing exhaust as seen with the stage 1 Garrett kit?

Very interested in finding out final price -- also, is there a possibility for a group buy?

Sam and Mike: Well played.

The evolution of capitalism, consumerism, and technology brings us to the point where you can buy even better for cheaper.

I won't grouse, I got every penny of value out of my stg2 kit, but this one would be that much better.

What a great kit. What a great time for VHQ engines.

Looking forward to that 1/4 mile test session. Rock it!

I must agree with Sharp. Altho I love my stage 2, I certainly wish this kit existed when I was in the market for one.

Just to maintain complete objectivity, you still need to budget money for the install, cooling upgrades, and gauges to do it right. Very exciting option for everyone, for sure!
