Going FI with VSR Motorsports top mount single turbo

I have finally decided to go FI and my choice was a VSR top mount single turbo. The install will be going down mid may. I don’t know how I am going to hold out for 2 months but that was the only time work permitted. I would like to hear from others who have this same kit and could give me any words of advice. I would actually like to hear from anyone as this is my first turbo vehicle (never even driven a car with a turbo) and I am not sure what to expect. This kit puts down about 450 to 550 whp from what I have seen and I would be happy at the lower end of that, as the 370 is my DD. I would appreciate any input.

first turbo vehicle, not sure what to expect, single top mount, and DD...... best of luck my friend...

My z was my first turbo vehicle and my dd everything worked out well for me

Nissan370 03-06-2013 06:19 PM

i am also going with this same kit if all goes well i should have this kit by april

elperuano 03-06-2013 07:37 PM

The install takes 2 months???? That can't be right.

tower74 03-06-2013 07:46 PM

You'd be amazed at how long some can take. Hell when I had my STS kit installed it took them 9 weeks to do a 18-24hr install. It's all about the shop and their knowledge of the Z. Good luck with it....I had a single and put 481hp on 93 octane.

elperuano 03-06-2013 08:16 PM

If ur goin to a shop that doesn't have knowledge with the Z then that's the problem.
A top mount turbo should take nowhere near 2 moths to complete.
I'll wait for OP response I'm sure I understood it wrong.

SS_Firehawk 03-06-2013 08:40 PM

It's the only opening for him to get his car there due to his work schedule, I'd imagine it doesn't take long for VSR to install it because they manufacture the kit and only they install it. You could always pay for transport if you have another car OP :) Good luck with your build, I'm still waiting for mine...

elperuano 03-06-2013 09:14 PM

Ahhh k re-read it. He can't go until mid may. Car won't be there this whole time tho. Makes more sense now.

regulator11 03-06-2013 09:16 PM

i will be bringing the car to them in two months (im and an hour and a half south of them) they say that it will take 2 to 3 day for install and tune. they will have all of the parts there ready to go. to my knowledge there should be atleast a couple of other guys on this forum that have the kit installed and are very happy with the outcome of the product and the customer service.

elperuano 03-06-2013 09:34 PM

Yea that sounds about right.
Yea there are a few guys here that have this kit when they were called S&R.
So far everything seems good with them except for one guy who sold his car pretty quick after install but he said for personal reasons.
Good luck OP!
I'm further south about an hour n half away from me. If u ever come down I'd love to see the ride when it's all said n done.

Thats not cool at all... I noticed when I ordered my gtm st 2 kit it didnt come with the Tial Bov but instead Turbo Smart.... And be aware the instructions are very vague.

GTM's instructions? I was sent a fantastic instruction manual with color photos of each step. I was very impressed. You didn't get the same?

Baer383 03-07-2013 06:29 PM

:iagree:

Liquid_G 03-07-2013 08:30 PM

don't mean to derail the thread but I have to chime in on the GTM instructions as well.. I haven't done much more than installing coilovers and exhausts on cars before DIY'ing my GTM SC kit. Their instructions were the only reason I though I could tackle it and haven't had a single problem in almost 2 years now. I thought they were pretty awesome.

Punk86 03-08-2013 09:52 AM

I cant wait to see the results!

Footloose301 03-11-2013 11:58 AM

In for results and a ride

I might just pull the trigger on this myself.

regulator11 03-18-2013 09:39 AM

Not sure if this is a stupid question or not but there should be no ses light after the turbo is installed right?

ts-c63 03-18-2013 09:47 AM

as long as its tuned correctly you shouldnt.

SRperformance 03-23-2013 08:25 AM

I would like to thank the customer for letting us use his car for the final jigs. The customer asked to tune his car on the conservative side and it laid down 507hp with 20in wheels at 10psi

Footloose301 03-23-2013 08:35 AM

Awesome pull!

regulator11 03-23-2013 08:57 AM

Im probably going to want mine between 8 and 9 psi. I think that would be enough for around 475 whp. I also have 20 in wheels. I have been playing forza horizon with a boosted 370 just to hold me over lol

Footloose301 05-17-2013 12:44 PM

Sweet!

Chuck33079 05-17-2013 01:09 PM

Take it easy at first when you get it back. That's a LOT more power.

Nissan370 05-17-2013 01:21 PM

at least someone has got there kit i am still waiting

regulator11 05-18-2013 10:52 AM

Well worth the wait. The car is a beast and puts down the power very well.

Glokwork 05-19-2013 08:35 AM

Good luck to you both

Footloose301 05-19-2013 08:40 AM

I got a ride in regulators 370Z last night and it pulled nicely. Definitely needing boost in my Z now

how much do the single turbo kits cost compared to the TT kits or supercharged kits? Really thinking about going FI, but wondering what the cost differences are between the different options . . . anyone with any info? PMs are welcome too;)
