Mercedes 3.0 twin Turbo v6

Just got home from work, opened up autoblog, and saw this...

2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class [w/video] First Drive

So there's been rumors about the next gen infinti/nissan getting a 3.0tt and a variant of this engine would not only be awesome but would make sense. The new E class weighs just under 3935 lbs and the engine produces 329 hp/354 lbft. Fuel economy is at 19/30 mpg and 0-60 is 5.2 sec.

I can only hope Nissan's next gen Z has this. Even if the car loses no weight the performance, fuel economy, and around town drivability would be great.

Thoughts?

Maybe turn the boost up to 400hp & tq, then I might get excited.

Agreed. The potential of this is pretty exciting.

very interesting indeed.

Is there a MB -> Nissan link that I'm not aware of?

A small(er) displacement V6 with forced induction could be just what the chassis needs to gain more favor with the public. Better fuel economy and "dial in power" from boost.

Nissan and mercedes are sharing technology not engines. Could be wrong. but i dont know of any nissan car right now with a Benz engine, why would the Z be the first?

There's a wide range of articles. The only confirmed engine as of now is a four cylinder turbo.

I would love to see 400 hp as well but my assumption would be that if we got this engine the power and torque would be slightly higher in a chassis that weighs maybe 50-100lbs lighter.

seems like every car is going turbo!!

SS_Firehawk 02-20-2013 03:17 PM

efficiency rules the roost.

I'd love to have a 3.0L Twin Turbo v6 with 400HP/400TQ (oh, and the weight right around 3000lbs). :) Nissan can name it whatever Z they want to.

How about just Nissan Z? We all call our cars "the Z" or " my Z", so why not drop the numbers all together? Why not standardize the markets and go Fairlady Z across the board?

We all know the reason we have a NA car that is gradually getting minor imporvements is because too many kids/people/bone-heads find the ditch or pole/tree in their Z. Do I want a factory turbo Z? Hell yeah! Is it likely................nope.

Hope the Nissan doesn't weigh 3935 lbs like the Mercedes.
