I could never get past 14lbs boost with the HKS. I ran quick at 17 lbs boost with the manual, with ability to go more.

I tried every setting. This glitch doesn't apply to probably anyone but me, but it was real.

Another reason they canned the short-lived EVC-S?

You can adjust the amount of boost over the set point on the EVC-s. Is it possible you had it set at 7 lbs over the set point?

SharpByCoop 02-09-2013 09:37 PM

^^^ That's what they tell you. I set it at every level beyond.

According to what I set it at it should have boosted 22 lbs. Every setting higher and higher = 14 lbs actual. I maxxed every setting.

Installed the manual controller and immediately it got 17 lbs of boost.

Just because it says you can, doesn't mean it will. That's what I found.

Good to know. I have the EVC-s but haven't used it yet. It's installed but in "off" mode until it gets tuned.

I wondered why R/T Tuning recommended a MBC.

Thinking aloud here: Now that I think of it, the EVCS doesn't have a 'boost pressure' in pounds setting. It uses percentages. If you can decipher the manual translation it's an additional percentage of the WG pressure. (The manual was not user friendly).

Very confusing. So if you have 7lb wg spring and set the increase at 60%, it's 60% of 7lbs in addition, which is 4.2lbs.

7+4.2 = 11.2 theoretical boost limit

So I max it at 100% and I get 14lbs. 7lbs + 7lbs = 14 lbs. There is no way to raise it above 100%. I have the built in WG's on my twins, so it's not quite as simple to change the springs. I guess it's possible? Never done this.

I'll ask my shop. This might deserve a second chance. In the meantime, it's a dandy $500 boost guage. LOL!

If you have 7 pound wastegate springs you would only be good to about double your spring pressure that's why you had a problem with the evc s.

I have 14 pound wastegate springs as and I don't have a problem turning it up to 19 psi I'm going for more in the next month or so .

Hey coop it's not that hard to change the WG springs it took about a hour or so to change both in my car.

Thanks. :)

Yes you can get the external gates from GTM plenty of other places as well.

My fault I miss read your post before because you have internal WG I think probably why you had a problem.

I have External gates that's why it was easy changing the spring's I got them with my kit.
