I have the billet FI flex plate. I read the stock one will fail with high hp. I assume that would apply to any 7AT since that is connection of crankshaft to transmission.

Yeah, that pic looks identical to one on an eBay ad I had saved.

Looks like I may need a trans build soon.
My 7AT has started slipping. Going to try changing fluid and see if that helps. Otherwise I will need to find a solution. I don't know what to do. Should I get a Pure transmission, or Rjm, or IPT, or try the DCT conversion like SpecialtyZ is doing. I am worried about the later one, because I don't know who in Australia would be capable of such a conversion. CJM told me that it would take the most elite level auto electrician, possibly 80+ hours to do the wiring and setup for the DCT conversion on their own from scratch. Sounds a bit daunting. Not many options I have down here. Or just take a chance with a local performance trana builder. Might really need to do something soon though. |

My VR30 Swap should be completed today. I'll post some pics once done. I ended up buying one off Ebay and a local shop is installing it. I need a lift in my garage for these type of things!!

Even though the VR30 trans is stronger than the stock Z 7sp AT, I hear they will still fail after 600whp/600tq.
So what about future proofing for people who want to make atleast 800whp, will the VR30 suffice or do we need something stronger? |

SOHO claims to have a VR trans holding 572 ftlbs. For superchargers, you’d probably have near 700 whp with that amount of torque. That would be plenty for me, as you’d essentially have 3 unusable gears in WOT at that point

Have you logged your transmission temps? After cruising for a while on a 95 deg. day, then doing a 5.5k pull, I'm not seeing trans temps over 194 F. I don't have a trans cooler and am trying to gauge whether I might need one in the future. I'm thinking unless I do multi-lap HDPE, probably not necessary.

This is a great thread. I’m pretty much at a crossroad with what I should do with my automatic as well. I’ve got a 2014 automatic touring Sport with all the fixings and top guns “original”air to air supercharger and I’ve been running reliably between 550 and 590 whp @14 to 15 psi for over a year . Currently I’m 570whp/ @14.4psi and 450ft-lbs torque
I attribute all of my healthy longevity to my incredible tuner, Harry @z-tuner in Bradenton and the fact that I don’t consistently abuse the car. I do drive it to work or daily drive it 3 days a week and my wife drives it occasionally around town. Car runs only on e85 which probably helps greatly. Car has stock engine, stock transmission and the headers are stock, everything else is upgraded with all supporting coolers. Having said all of this I assume it’s only a matter of time before the transmission fails and I would love more power for the occasional street race or track day. I’ve been leaning more toward ipt transmission rebuild and then a new differential and 3.9 gears with new fly wheel. Would love to hear suggestions from anyone.
