The car was fired up for the first time today and had no glitches to speak of:tup: now need to break in the motor while they put the finishing touches on the intake and exhaust.
I did upgrade the brakes while I was waiting :icon18: which should be going on Monday. Stoptech d&s rotors, ss lines, hawk hps pads and dot 4 fluids. Also all the interior is complete. Sam snapped a few pics from his phone for me today :happydance: |
I do like that set up....very nice.
Sorry I didn't read the whole thread but what engine did you go with? I'm looking at the 4.2.L or when they announce the V8. Either way one of the two will be in my car by the end of the year. |

Their announcing a v8 swap :o ?

Awesome dude! It has been a long road indeed. You are gonna have to post up your numbers/dyno. That way, I can have 3 targets to shoot for with my build. Yours, Mr Squeeze, and Phunk...............

It would be nice to see more built motor TT 370z's out there shoot and join the club my friend. Does Phunk have a built motor now ? I may have missed it could have sworn it was still stock block on E85. |

Finding someone you trust to build you motor can be a little tricky. I have a local machine shop that built my motor that I trust ,and is a friend., You also have R/T Tuning R.A.D over here in the tri state that you could use, then you have GTM as well. Quote:
He has a 6266 precision turbo |
One thing that can always help, adds to cost but is worth it, is shipping the motor.
This opens up who you use and can be setup that you can drop the motor & throw it back in once it is built. |
Dynosty in Louisville KY is a great VQ engine builder. I have a lot of customers with engines built by them, and a few really beat these engines to death. They all hold, and perform very well. Give them a call at 502.384.8882 ask for Hal or Dustin. They use the best parts you can get on the market, and have fantastic customer service (something that can be hard to find)
I am about to ship my VQ down there for a long block build. |

Counting from the start of this project I have been without car for a year. It got fubar at poo shop and now been at GTM for I think is going on 10mos. I can't wait to get it cuz it's suppose to give me BJs everytime I drive it so its worth the wait. |
I live in Calgary (Canada) and I was thinking of shipping my engine for a rebuild during the up coming winter. Im a little hesitant now because Im worried it will take 8+ months to get done. Why isn't the engine done yet? Are there reputable shops that can do it in less time? Say 2-3 months? Im thinking the 4.2 stroker and rebuild...
|
plenty of shops can do it in reasonable time. Just have to research.
|
Yeah, find someone local or ship it to a good machine shop. GTM makes great stuff, but they've never been referred to as "fast" or "timely". It's not a huge deal if you're building a spare block, but having your car down 8 months becomes an issue.
|
So this went from a 30 day job in December till now and not finished. Was any plans changed at anytime? But even then.
|
John's car has been finished for almost 4 month now. For the magnitude of this job including the custom interior gauge work the time is with reason. I know there is a lot of experts here but that is my opinion. Currently we are waiting on some aero parts from japan. Then will move to the body work phase and we should wrap up the project .

Four months sounds a lot more reasonable than the 8+ thrown around in this thread.
|
Guess he lied. He just posted 3 days ago he is still waiting. But as was stated earlier, aside from this build. GTM is definitely not known for keeping with expected finished build dates.
|
Yeah, four months and eight months are kinda different.
Edited for my reading comprehension- Sam said it's been done for four months, but then says they're going to start on body and aero soon. Maybe the powertrain was finished four months ago, and the rest of the build has taken another four? |
My suggestion is give GTM a call about what you want, build time, etc.
If it is a straight built motor, ship in, build, ship out. They can probably meet the deadline you set if it is realistic. It is the builds that get to GTM that keep having things added to them which push dates back. |
He was waiting for the Fujimura bumper and wheels. I'm assuming GTM is going to optimize the airflow to the coolers. OP lives in PHX, gets hot there and running that much power when it's 115 outside needs special considerations.
|
That's why I ask! Every damn time there seems to be a lot of other BS work done besides the build itself. Nothing on GTM's part at all. But everyone tells only a fraction of the story. I'm so sick of this crap here!
|
Yeah, if its a full motor/paint/body/interior job with stuff coming in from Japan, 8 months isn't unheard of. That makes more sense than 8 months for a motor build.
|
It sounds to me like they are in need of more help at gtm to keep up with supply and demand. Maybe spohn should apply for a position there since he seems to be their pr person on this forum... lol

That's a lot clearer. Thanks. Sure, it could be done faster. If I were going for a build that big, I'd take "done well" over "done fast" any day of the week. If you're doing something not many people have done, there's going to be hiccups. The guys at GTM will get it sorted out.
|
I was at GTM today to drop off my work wheels and check on the car. I was able to inspect the bumper and the quality of the fujimura bumper was unbelievable. The car is now in one of the bays on a lift so should be able to tear into it soon I hope. I saw that the motor was built and in and saw the fuel return system piece on the motor also. All interior gauges looked good although I didn't get a chance to see them light up in person. After talking with Sam today we are going to add front n rear sway bars and change out the stance coil overs to kw v3. Also ditching the analog racelogic control and putting the digital one in where the 3 blank switches are in the center consol. Once the bumper is installed we will be able to move the oil coolers off to the side and repipe everything. Hopefully that solves the hear issue we are runnijg into. Then get the gtr intake on and some paint and done. Hopefully will have something to update in a few weeks :excited:

Finally getting some good actions going on with the Z. The kw suspension is on. The giant Intercooler has been changed to the split intercoolers to allow more space and air thru to the radiator. The 2 34 row oil coolers have been moved completely off to the sides to maximize airflow that way also. The lower piping has been done and now working on the piping from the gtr manifold. Once there done its off to polish to make it pretty. Should have something shiny to share soon. I will share the mock up photo

Its been over a year now and im still waiting for my stage 3 SC upgrades.
the 4.2 stroker is only 1 month late so far . its my fault as i have not shipped sam the Cams yet. order date of motor June 23 2013 nice workmanship terrible delivery dates. i got a 4.2 stroker for my 350 z. Duty , taxes and insurance 3400.00 shipped to canada. you have to do it right for if it gets damaged or dropped i would be out 20000.00 dollars/ Z |
