Seemed alot eaiser going drop the engine route as the new clutch was going in also. The mechanic also said he did a 350z with no engine drop and it was a pain in the ***

That is interesting as every shop I have talk to drops the motor for ease.
Though the kit is designed for the engine to be left in and installed, there is even a DIY on the forum of it.

haha yeah, imagine how I felt when I forgot to re-install the starter prior to installing the turbo with the engine in the car. protip: remove the solenoid, install starter, install solenoid. :ugh2:

it's definitely easier, i wouldn't recommend doing it with the engine in. one of the most frustrating things i've done mechanically

elperuano 12-14-2012 02:58 PM

To install a TT on this platform with the engine in is a nightmare. Why anyone would recommend installing this kit with the motor in is weird to me. You COULD do it but why take the hardest route possible? Definitely MUCH easier to install with the motor dropped. To each his own I suppose.

not all of us have lifts to drop the engine, you can pull it out the front as well but thats arguably just as bad as installing with the engine in

elperuano 12-14-2012 03:59 PM

Yea that's almost the same, I was simply going on that anyone would actually recommend doing it with motor in. That's just tough.

Is it fun? Oh yeah. But be careful. There's a lot more power to deal with. Respect it. Things you could get away with at stock power levels will have you swapping ends in a hurry.

looks like they forgot to paint your wastegate actuator brackets, those will rust as they are just steel. you need to paint those brackets, the intercooler brackets, and the steering rack coupler. my engine mount spacers came painted already but some have had to paint those as well.

elperuano 12-17-2012 07:02 PM

Whenever someone says car porn it always reminds me of the show "My strange addiction" and this weird guy used to have sex with his car... Not sure how one goes about doing that but yeaa......
Back on topic, definitely looks like car porn!

a whole lot better

I just ordered my gtm TT kit and plan on doing the install with the motor in as well. Not everyone has the means to a lift and such. Besides I also did the install with the motor in on my 350z aps TT kit and I cant say it was easy but I enjoyed doing the work myself. To each his own... ;)

What do u mean by "as well"? The OP took the motor out. I think u got the threads mixed up!
TT install on a 350?? U r right about to each his own, not sure I would "enjoy" that experience lol.

looks good! I would remind them about the actuator brackets because if you're going to paint them now is the time.

elperuano 12-18-2012 08:35 PM

Lookin good! Hopefully the shop can figure it out ASAP n save u some coin!

Day 6

engine back in car. clearance on wastegate selonoid left side fixed(clock turbo)looking at stange plate dunno what it isabout 2.5'x1.5' with 6 spacers.
perhaps for intercooler? pained brackets.really starting to look like a bad *** engine. still not alot of space but it is comming together-50hrs +/- so far
it wont be cheap but it will be fast

esfourteen 12-19-2012 07:50 PM

the 6 spacers are for your strut bar to accommodate the raised engine. that other bracket is not for your car, GTM likely put it in there on accident.

Exactly what I was thinkin, don't recall ever seein that bracket.
Coming along nicely! This is the home stretch now! Is the same shop doing tuning?

ok-we were thinking perhaps on the steering rack bottom plate(it is quite tight and does not sit properly on one side. the web on inside of plate touches steering rack.

thanks

the same shop will set up the basic tune but no dyno there so they will take it to another shop for help with the tune

the instructions are pretty clear, that plate is definitely not used on the steering rack. I got an extra bracket in my kit too but it was a different one, its like a surprise

just some advice as far as tuning goes, Sam's tune was pretty much spot on for my car and most others. AFR can be tweaked a bit but timing there likely won't be much to adjust if at all. if you get it dyno tuned make sure its by a competent tuner so you dont waste your time and money

i think the shop it is in now will do most of the tune and deal with sam

Day 7
Greddy exhaust is on now-beautiful.
intercooler is in place and 34 row oil cooler in place-great
Thats a big capable intercooler-very nice. may take the baffles out from exhaust. The extra plate was for the Greddy exhaust system. Man i am pumped:stirthepot:

issue to upload pics today-i will try again later
