For GTM owners, they released an intercooler that allow you to install the stock crash bar.

If its the one I'm thinking of, it's actually two smaller cores. I'd buy a new crash bar, but I'm not going to replace the core itself. That would cost much more than the crash beam.

How much this bar cost? nobody have any idea...

elperuano 11-24-2012 03:35 PM

I believe it's the 2 smaller cores as well, I like my huge intercooler :) although this in front of it might take away from the appeal the added safety might be worth it.

I'm sure Bobby will have a price for you guys soon. It's being powder coated this weekend along with everything else. The bar isn't that big and it's in the same location as the factory one, so it won't be visible at all once the bumper cover is back on.

elperuano 11-24-2012 03:41 PM

Does this crash beam go exactly in front of the intercooler? Lookin forward to pics of this installed.

Glokwork 11-24-2012 03:49 PM

Here is a pic of my car, this should help you get an idea what the finished product looks like.

Once the car is back together (bumper cover back on) you won't be able to see the crash beam.

What FI kit is that?^

Boost_lee 11-24-2012 04:25 PM

S&R's single turbo kit Im guessing

esfourteen 11-25-2012 02:58 PM

gtm planned for the twin intercooler design for the mitsu kit to fit the garret kits as well and will be offering it for sale by itself soon. its entirely new piping though, so expect it to be a bit pricey.

So bobby are you saying that the kit you installed on my car is not safe? This is not good at all. From what you just said.

Pretty standard practice to remove that front crash bar.

It's technically a horrible idea, but oh, the things we do for speed.

Chuck33079 11-28-2012 09:19 AM

I was under the understanding that the crash beam in USDM cars were a 5 mph bumper beams, meaning it was to prevent damage to the mechanical componants in the front end in collisions of less than 5mph. Does the JDM model have the same beam? Their rules only require a 3 mph bumper beam, and they usually put a smaller one in. Plus, the intercooler itself will function as the world's most expensive crash beam in larger impacts. I wouldn't say it's unsafe, just far less than ideal since your new crash beam is an intercooler that probably costs around $1k to replace and prevents driving the car if damaged.

:icon18: pretty much, the price we pay for FI. If ur worried bout safety in a high powered Z prolly should look into crash beam and roll cage.
