Then you are referring to the bumper absorber.

Yes, the foam piece that fits within the bumper skin. That is definitely meant to just crush and absorb energy. It's easy to replace too. What we were talking about above is the aluminum beam that gets removed.

That what I was talking about too,I wasn't talking about the foam.

I'd just like something in there to make sure that the intercooler doesn't get crushed if someone backs into my car.

That is what this thread is about, they are using the term crash beam when it is refered to as a bumper reinforcement sometimes known as a rebar.

Chuck33079 11-16-2012 08:26 AM

Exactly. People seem to be looking at this as something for driver safety, but all it's going to do is keep a minor front end impact from puncturing the intercooler core.

SRperformance 11-16-2012 11:34 AM

No, its really design for safety. Have you seen what happens to a car when its been hit at a angle? The two rails will spit apart, the factory crash beam will keep the rails from tearing apart. keep in mind the only thing up front is that beam and a plastic radiator support.
This beam will protect the intercooler, Oil cooler, Radiator, a/c condencer and you when you hit a tree head on.

With out that beam your engine could land up in your lap. Just saying

Maybe I should have phrased my post differently. All I care about is intercooler protection. I doubt that the only thing keeping the engine out of the passenger compartment is the crash bar. I'm sure it helps, but it's not the only thing preventing me from getting a face full of motor. Also, it'll be pretty hard to verify that it does or doesn't make a difference without substantial crash testing, and I hope you don't plan on wrecking 5-10 turbod Zs to see if it works.

Don't take this the wrong way, I'm not bashing your product. I want one. If you tell me it 100% works with a GTM intercooler I'll buy one from you right now.

Thank you for clearing that up for me.

There is a local customer that has a GTM kit. The question is how many people would buy one?

How much would you sale it for ? For the right price I would be interested as im sure other's would be to.

ENT-Z 11-16-2012 09:06 PM

I'd buy one if it would fit with the Boosted Performance kit I bought!

Chuck33079 11-17-2012 03:49 PM

If the price is right, I can't imagine anyone with an intercooler not buying it. If it costs me a couple hundred to keep a fender bender from rendering my car inoperable, tell me where to send the money.
