anyone running a lightweight/underdrive pulley with a turbo?

Just wondering if anyone out there is running either a lightweight or underdrive pulley?

I had the stillen pulley on for about 5,000 miles before going TT, 2000 miles later it appears I have rod knock. Car is only making 500whp (dynojet) and the tune I was running from GTM was pretty much spot on so this seems unlikely to be a factor in the demise of my bearings; right now I am inclined to blame the pulley.

In related news, stay tuned for an engine build thread

Which pulley? The crank pulley?

I'm sure you've seen Sam's thread about the customer with a blown NA motor that is now being built for 700hp. Those underdrive pulleys are ticking time bombs.

It does seem that the VQ does not enjoy underdrive pulleys. I also see a lot of built DE/HR engines running the ATI super damper and I suppose this is exactly why. An expensive lesson learned.

why does it seem that so many boosted vq's are being hurt lately?? just in the last 3 months off the top of my head nismo z, sharpbycoop, mr squeeze, and this gentlemen

nismo was running too much power/torque for the stock rods (he was dynoing 550 in the summer and running the same boost in winter)
squeeze had some faulty injector and a cylinder let go (that was almost last year I think)
not sure about coop but based on the numbers I saw him pushing, id say the same as the nismo, too much torque for stock rods.

I'm pretty confident my bearings are shot due to the underdrive pulley as mentioned.

Mine died 15 months ago cylinder number 2 took a dump on me.

Nismo Blew a few holes in his block just drove the thing way to hard, to many 170mph pulls on 12 pounds.

Coop tracked his car and was up there in power like Nismo he got lucky that he didn't blow a hole in his block.

Sometimes it's bad luck and sometimes it's how much you push your luck.

Boosting a stock high compression NA engine is not for the timid. Nor is it for those who will get hungry for more power and just turn the boost up.

Do I want more power? Hell yeah, but I keep telling myself that I'm pushing my luck as it is. So more power will have to wait. Maybe even longer than I was originally thinking.....

exactly as mr squeeze stated... three of those are cars from the Tri-State area... Nismo Z pushed his car to the limits, all because we had plans on building the car this year, so drove it like he stole it and whooped a bunch a cars along the way lol

squeeze explained his situation already

Nick... like i said, those crank pulleys were never a good a thing. we refuse to install them in any customer cars. ATI pulleys are actually engineered and dampered, not comparable to the regular bolt on "lightweight" pulleys.

its alright you will be back out and hangin next to squeeze's car ;)

agree with the above, I'm looking for more also, But like 50 WHP more not a lot, But still pushing it even tho uprev told me we have pretty stout blocks. I'm sorry to hear of another down FI VQ. But again Coop was running LOW 11's a lot of power, MR Squezze had some bad luck( thanx for all the help so far) and the other I did not know, Him, I have had some of my own down luck with what looks like a SC seal going , But a lot better off than the engine taking a vaca. :)- In for build ,pics and final result,

Yup, Don't do it!
