I'm out of town for the moment but I will be doing a motor swap or a rebuild.

Just looking at those plugs I would of never tried to start it looks like you have three plugs missing metal which 90% sure it's in the motor. So by starting your going to scare the piston walls which will let oil in past the piston ring. I would be trying to get a small long magnet to put in there to see if there are metal fragments left. Looks like your gonna have to pull the head. ON THE BRIGHT SIDE you could try the new exhaust cam sense your gonna be in the motor anyway. Best of luck

Just an update. We are doing a compression test tomorrow and hopefully all is well. If that passes then it should be something on the fuel side which could mean the fuel injectors. The car starts up just fine, no smoke, no weird noises except for a faint tap which could be a fuel injector or a bent valve. We won't know until we do the test. My question is does anybody know of anyone on the forum who has stock fuel injectors up for sale? I called Nissan and they want 150 a pop.

I have stock injectors from G35 HR Sedan that I could sell you. That is if they fit.

Wow....
Hey bro, I haven't check'ed this thread since I last posted. I'm sorry to hear. What was the issue? Did you ever find out? I read that you data logged. Was the map you were using a tuned map or a map with timing pulled? What was done with the maps?
I have not yet upgraded my stock plugs but am switching to the GTR plugs once they come in. I read that you went with the NGK ones. Your previous data logs before this happen what was your AFR? My quarter mile data logs that I did with the a 100 shot and stock map reads that I'm running super rich at 10.xx. Randy from Uprev suggests that I less the fuel jet maybe a little and re-datalog it. I prefer running on the rich side than running lean and a situation like this happens. I prefer that he tunes it through the AFR than for me to mess with the jet setting. I did run into the Zex box not spraying. I'm too far so and I ended up just purchasing another one. It works like a champ now everytime. I wonder what happened in your scenario. You took all the precautions like I did and I got all the safety devices as well. I've been running almost two years now on the bottle but only during the weekly drags and during spirited drives for datalog purposes for tuning and have not had any issues. Only issue was a faulty box not firing. Please bring us up to speed as to what is going on. Again, I'm sorry to hear. JC |
I am over in Afghanistan again at the moment and haven't been here in a while but I will update what I can. So it is looking like the guy that tuned my car pulled too much timing out. I had a map for on and off the bottle which obviously it ate my plugs alive. The thing is I was over cautious I should have never gotten a tune for the nitrous b/c our motors can handle it. The zex box ya as soon as they replaced it I was good to go. I guess those are just hit or miss. My buddy is actually going to be pulling the motor out here in a couple of weeks and finally get down to the bottom of this and see what is going on. As I get the information I will be posting. I am looking at some upgrades though while we have it apart. I am looking to up the shot to about150 so fingers crossed

Bumping this thread back up.
Are you guys running wet or dry kits? I'm not new to nitrous at all but have always used wet kits. A friend of mine is giving a good deal on a brand new zex dry kit and I was thinking about hooking it up. What do ya'll think? |
Never run a dry kit on your Z, they are running wet shots.

imo dry kits are just as reliable if not more reliable than wet kits when tuned properly(well with intake foggers at least, direct port is the best way to go imo), the intake manifold is not designed to flow fuel so you could be running lean in a few cylinders while running rich in others(IE cylinder 1&2 could be running rich, 3&4 could be perfect, and 5&6 are lean because they are the furthest away from the TB) not trying to be a pain or start a flame war here, just being the devils advocate |
