My goal is to have it off the lift by May 1st. Quote:
The car that is being worked on had Stillen headers, and aftermarket test pipes. These were leaking a lot with the metal gasket. I will see how this works out and as mentioned earlier, nothing will be sold untill this kit is working perfect. Last edited by Boosted Performance; 04-18-2012 at 12:22 PM. |

on the way you work. Many companies release products that are half-assed which only causes more headaches. |

I know that you are mainly a 350 guy, and they gasket issue is 370 specific. This is why I am bringing it to your attention. If the factory gasket is an option please try to work that into your system. |

The gasket is one of my main concerns, but then again i never went back and retorque them after a couple of heat cycles.
Flyboy, that does not look like the OEM gasket, the OEM one has a black rubber ring around the inside. This is what mine looked like when i took it off. Passanger side Driver side

I've never seen a gasket like that on my Z. Is that what you have between the stock headers and the cats? When I put my Berk HFC's on the factory gasket looked just like the Berk one but the Berk was a bit thicker.

Flyboy is correct, that is the factory gasket as per Nissan parts departments. It mounts between the lip of the factory cat and the beveled surface in the stock exhaust manifold and is pressed between the two creating a seal.
Personally I also went through a few of the gaskets Motordyne supplies with their ART pipes until I installed the motordyne gasket WITH the stock factory gasket carefully positioned and tacked up with high temp gasket maker and so far have had zero issues in 3 or 4 months. Compared to the Motordyne gaskets lasting one dyno tuning session on my SCed car. |

If these are such a problem, I would use high Temp RTV with the Berk gaskets. The kit will come with a tube of it anyway for the oil pan spacer, and the rest (penty left) can be used on the headers. I know for a fact that the high temp RTV will now blow out, and a lot of guys use them right on the turbo inlet flange.
But again, the berk gasket should work just fine, and needs to be re-torqued after heat cycling. Last edited by Boosted Performance; 04-18-2012 at 03:12 PM. |
