The waste gates are recirculated. I was wondering if there will be an open dump pipe option. Or is there a way to simply cap off the hole on the down pipe and leave the waste gates open.

The recirculation will the options, and open dump will be standard. It is a real PITA to recirculate, and it will cost more to do it, hence it being an option.

Just get your kitty (eavater) to do it.

Injectors are very easy to do, you just make sure to put some clean oil on your finger tip, and lube the rings before sliding them in to the rail, and back on the car. They slip right in there.

Boosted will you offer the kit without the fuel pump, injectors, and uprev liscense in a "tuner" kit for people that would rather source there own different components or already have an uprev lisc.?

Yes, there will be a tuner version available for sure.

What is the benefit of running open dump for the waste gates?

Neo187H 05-03-2012 12:52 PM

Awesome. Man this thread makes me think about taking off and selling my Stillen kit.

sojirovskensi 05-03-2012 12:59 PM

Will you have some optional changes?
If someone already has a decent oil cooler and doesn't want the one in the kit, will you subtract the amount from the kit?
Also, if he wants to have different BOVs, such as HKS, will it be possible?

I would like to know this as well?

why does the placement matter for this? It wouldn't be the same if the turbo was anywhere else? I'm sure the customer can choose those options if they want to spend the extra coin. My turbo turbines are ceramic coated but I havn't seen any turbos around here suffering from corrosion and we have tons of humidity and salt air.

Bet boosted has this thing at the dyno already LOL!

Well, turbos on many OEM applications are protected by splash plates. I am not worried about the turbo rusting away or anything, merely a curiosity. Plus, the SS hotsides are much lighter, which is nice, particularly where you have pipes supporting part of the turbo's weight. Anyway, based on BP's response, looks like it's not even an option here.

Well, for starters there is no such thing as a SS divided turbine housing...remember, this is a twin scroll turbo system. On top of that, I use Precision turbos and Precision does not offer this as an option, only Garrett turbo does. They also only offer it for the GT35R turbo and the GT42 (a rather large turbo). The heat alone will prevent the housing from rusting, it may develope a bit of surface corrosion but that is as far as it will go.

I think there are Tial Sport SS hotsides available for a broader range of Garrett turbos: link

In theory, even less exhaust back-pressure since the exhaust that bypasses the turbo gets vented to atmosphere rather than back into the exhaust system. However, I have to believe that for most street applications, the performance difference is nominal.

Boosted Performance 05-03-2012 02:34 PM

To add to the above statements....the open dump gates will be loud...very loud at WOT. If you stay out of boost there is no noise at all because the wastegates are closed. It get's loud as you approach boost spring pressure, and during WOT runs.

The turbo would spool just a tad quicker because a lot of the exhaust is diverted to atmosphere through the wastegates. It does not need to flow to the back with the exhaust that goes through/out the turbine.

Would running them open damage anything? Kinda like a bypass huh?

No, you can't damage anything. It is just a valve, where things go after it does not matter.

Man I'm a noob when it comes to turbo's maybe you can develop a turbo book for dummies and send it with each kit?
