Vacuum blocks will work just fine. There is a rather large vacuum port at the back of the manifold (have picture on home computer) that can be used for this. I don't see a problem with it at all. I think it goes in to the cabbin (fire wall)..can't remember now. It is at least 3/8", so plenty big.

I will probably go with a vacuum block instead of drilling.

I used the vacuum manifold on the line Boosted mentioned. Works fine.

There really is not need for instructions. These things are as simple as you could get.

The inlet (npt x npt nipple in pic below) goes to a manifold vacuum source, and then just take the outlets to whatever needs a vacuum source:

The wastegate should not see vac. It's better to hook up the WG to a boost only source (compressor housing, charge piping). You run the risk of tearing the diaphragm. I found this out the hard way and have verified with Tial.

Strange...I have had the same Tial MV-S waste gate on my car for 3 years now hooked up to the IM, and not a single issue.

If you hook it up to the compressor cover, the boost will fall off in the upper RPM range. This is due to pressure drops across the entire system.


On the build...I am now working in the waste gates, things are looking good so far.

I'm glad I brought up vacuum blocks now lol. It was VERY convenient on my old turbo car. And you don't have to worry about drilling your plenum or worried about cheap t's into other lines.

Well, it's 1:15AM and I am done for yesterday I guess.

Got a solid start on the wastegates. While at it I had to move the transmission harness further up..no big deal at all, takes about two minutes. This is where the passenger side exhaust pipe runs.

Then I moved on to welding the waste gate pipes on:

Then I started the hard part, merging the two together. Each waste gate has a 1.5" outlet, and after merging it goes up to a single 2" pipe. It will go in to the driver side of the Y-pipe that goes in to the F.I exhaust:





As it sits now:



There will be a 2" V-band flange after that flex coupler that goes nowhere, and then another short section which will merge with the rest of the exhaust. This is something that I will do later on today I guess.

In case anybody is wondering about all the flex pipes. They serve two purposes. The install is made easier as there is a bit of give in them. The other (even more important purpose) is to keep things flexible during heat cycles. If everything was ridged, things would start to crack due to stress. I guess you can compare it to a bridge, if it was solid anchored to both sides it would fall apart rather quick.


I also had a look at how one would get to the fuel pump. It looks like it is behind the back seat, and a bunch of plastic has to be removed to gain access?

I think most put mirrors under the car to show the undercarriage. Though that would be pretty expensive.
