I don't normally calculate labor on the forum because it depends, shop rate, DIY, other mods added at that time throw the labor number out of whack.

That's a good point. Just didn't want anyone to think it was $1300 out the door for the upgrade.

Yeah, guess we could say 50-80whp for $1,500+labor.

It is exciting as hell that GTM keeps giving us new options, especially on the older kits. I would absolutely expect them to develop stage 2, 3, 4, - 100... but giving those of us new options with what we already have is genius. Just goes to show that they aren't in it for the coin alone, they really are enthusiasts and want to share this with the rest of us. I am syked to do the stage 1.5.
I love the SC... another 80-100 hp should bump the scream to a new level.

Unfortunately, CVT's are expensive. They're also not super lightweight either. Controlling one is also complicated. Complication adds more cost (as well as more things to go wrong). Therefore, adding a CVT system to a supercharger is going to be heavy, expensive, complex and while it will give you a broader powerband, the cost/benefit ratio doesn't pencil out. All that said, however, Rotrex is working with another company to develop a compact solution to do exactly what you and I both want. The key difference between what they're doing and simply adding CVT, is that the variable drive ratio will be integrated into the supercharger unit itself. By fully integrating that inside the casing, it will be light, efficient, compact, and more cost-effective. Don't hold your breath though, the R&D on that has been going on for two years now, and there hasn't been a word on any progress. It may end up that it the cost/benefit ratio isn't worth following through though. |
