4.5 crankshaft 400whp

I was just wondering, is it possible to reach 400whp if you swapped in a 4.5 crankshaft?? And maybe just maybe if someone just finished cracking this VVEL!!!????

Baer383 11-30-2011 08:23 PM

VVEL is and will probably never be broken.

And 400hp at the crank is easily achieved by TT or Supercharger.
And would cost allot less than building a N/A motor.

Whats not to understand the answer is NO this type of topic has been discussed all you need to do is use the search button.

I don't think your post helped the op at all and your worried that I don't understand the question.:shakes head::icon14:

You will need to build the whole block for the 4.5L as far as cracking VVEL most people dont know whats going on behind the scenes. Uprev has been working on VVEL for sometime now trying to understand the affects of the tuning and parameters that they are tuning at the moment. A 4.5L can definitely support 400whp what it really comes down to is what compression, supporting mods and tuning will get you there. I know GTM can build you an NA motor capable of what you want but at what $$$... Their full race NA motor is like $35k...

First of all he was asking about 400WHP not Crank.. Big difference.

Second, of all the VVEL is very close to being broken from what I understand but it doesn't seem to be very promising gains. From what my tuner has told me, they have actually been able to change lift and other things of that nature but instead of gain there was decrease and even a blown engine.

I don't think you answered one single question that the OP asked... He asked if its possible to achieve 400 WHP off a 4.5 L engine and it is quite achievable with the right amount of $. So the answer is not "NO" as you state.

cracking vvel will only help the forced induced guy and unless it is fully understood its more of a liability than anything. Best we let cracking VVEL go, its not worth it and clearly major power can still be had.

the whole reason I started the thread was that I wanted to know how much can someone gain from a 4.5L crank

and yes I know there is a search option, the thing you don't know it sucks!!

:icon14: IDK if you can put in a 4.5 crankshaft......but you can bore and sleeve the cylinders out to make your block a 4.5L block

I wouldnt hold my breath on VVEL tuning. GTM posted a video saying they accomplished approximately 800WHP. I personally think that a 400bhp N/A 370z is very achievable

P.S. I know what he means just the way he asked was funny to me

I don't really know why I mentioned VVEL from making profit I think it will not make that much of revenue to whom ever is working on that,

back to my question, I think it is possible GTM have the part on their website but like Bullit said it might be cheaper to go FI but still wondering how much of a difference will it make on an NA engine?

If VVEL gets "cracked" this is a good question

B.A.Q 12-01-2011 11:23 PM

lol I wish I never mentioned VVEL, sorry I confused everybody the question was for the stroker.

NYBladeZ 12-02-2011 08:08 AM

I think 4.5L with a new crankshaft running high compression will get you 400whp, however it is speculation because no one has attempted such a project.

B.A.Q 12-02-2011 12:49 PM

yeah I know, it works on the 350z did anyone hear about anything?

the reason I'm asking is that if it could get our cars to 400whp or close, I'll be very surprised that some track guys didn't attempt do try this it's gonna be a lot more reliable than any FI I guess.
