Default Most reliable 370Z FI setup?

Hi,

New to this forum. I currently have a SC'd BMW that I plan to keep for a few more years. What's next? Not sure yet... I'm really interested in the 997 Turbo but I'm not sure how affordable those will get over the next few years. In any case, I want something that can easily make around 500hp (crank) in a reliable way. Smog legal in CA would be a plus but not really required.

My daily driver is a sport bike, so I'm somewhat spoiled when it comes to power

Thanks for any help/info you can provide!

Reliable is all in the tune, especially at 500HP crank.
It really will come down to what you personally want from your car, do you want the feel & sound of a turbo? Carb legal currently would leave you with Stillen only as an option, but if you ignore that then your options are:

Greddy TT
GTM TT
GTM SC
Stillen SC
AAM TT

Here is a list of finished builds that can get you started: Forced Induction Finished Builds

tune and install. there are endless precautionary measures that can optionally be taken when adding 50lb+ of mechanical parts into an engine bay that was already pretty tight. had it been done from the factory, nearly every component outside the long block would have been designed differently for proper packaging.
The Real JayZ likes this.

Stillen is the only CARB legal.

I had it on my car for a year and had absolutely 0 issues with it. It's being removed right now only because I'm selling he car.

I cannot speak for any others since I have no experience.

Puts a smile on my face every time I drive it. I have to say, I wish Nissan would have put just a little more power in the Z from factory. She has 6k miles on her and runs great.

Lou:

That's wassup. I take it you don't get the Z out too much.

EuroZ:

Just ensure that you go with something that you will be "satisfied" with from the beginning. By that, I mean something that has room to grow just in case you get the "more boost" bug. After a year of deliberation, I decided to go TT instead of SC. I didn't go with the masses, but I didn't go as far as to go custom like 98intrigue or O&G. I may have spent a little more than necessary, but I am certain that I will be satisfied for a good while. Hopefully you will be happy with whatever you decide to go with........

Main goal would be solid power without too many headaches. Hence why a 997 turbo was on my list. 480hp stock and maybe a little over 500 with some software. Slap on exhaust, suspension and call it a day.

Sounds like a solid plan. Never drove a 997 turbo before, but got smoked by a Carrera Turbo in Naples when I had my S13 hatch. I slept on him and he rolled out on me. Not sure if it is the same as a 997 turbo, but it sure was fast.

I cant speak for the 370Z and its motor but on my DE motor i have over 78,000 miles boosted one way or another. The first was with the weak stillen roots blower and the last 5 years have been with the Greddy TT setup and its been dead reliable with 427rwhp and 434 rwt.

Both the 996 and 997 Turbo are a 911 (or Carrera) Turbo. 996 and 997 is only a designation of what generation 911 turbo one is referring to. 996 was early 2000s; 997 was the 2006+ model year. Output changed from 405hp to 480hp. They are indeed pretty quick.
